Coleman's NFL comeback bid is on hold. The 10-year veteran defensive lineman was among three cuts made by the New Orleans Saints on Monday as the club trimmed its roster to 75, the maximum for the final week of the preseason.

Brett Favre told the media on Monday that he believes he may be playing with a cracked rib, according to ESPN.com. Favre said he still plans to play the entire first half on Monday and that he won't wear any kind of protective equipment because "the damage is done."
Our View: This hasn't been the best start to a new quarterback's tenure in a city, and now apparently Favre is feeling discomfort when he takes a deep breath. We will have to see how it affects him tonight, but chances are he will play through something like this during the regular season.

AP is in Favre's corner
News: Ever since he signed with the Vikings last week, Brett Favre has openly admitted it will likely take time to earn the respect of his teammates and assimilate into a locker room that had been working with Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels. Some players are unhappy that Favre is taking the job away from Jackson and/or Rosenfels, but Adrian Peterson isn't one of them. The All-Pro running back was quiet during the first three days of the Favre Circus last week but spoke out for Favre recently. "There's just a love I have for him and how he plays the game," Peterson said. "I play the game the same way. ... I was a fan of his for a long time and still am. I'm definitely taking advantage of it." [...]

"Little support" for Favre
"Knowledgeable NFL people" have told ESPN's Adam Schefter that support for Brett Favre in the Vikings' locker room is an "issue," with someone else saying his addition has created a "schism."
Our View: Not that this should be surprising to anybody. If a team allows someone to fly in the face of all football and team conventions - namely skipping training camp - it's bound to create resentment amongst the people who have been there the whole time. If Favre isn't good, really good, out of the gate, it's plausible there could be a full-scale meltdown in Minnesota's locker room. And though the ways it will affect Favre's season will likely be subtle, it can't help someone's production, and therefore fantasy production, to have a locker room that is against him.

Favre will play first half vs. Texans
News: Vikings coach Brad Childress said Monday he expects quarterback Brett Favre to play the entire first half in their next exhibition game at Houston. He played two series against Kansas City on Friday night. The 39-year-old Favre went 1 for 4 for 4 yards and did not lead the offense to a first down. The Vikings' third preseason game is next Monday night, and typically is when coaches play their starters the most. Childress says it will be important for Favre to get plenty of snaps to try to build chemistry with his offensive teammates before the regular season opens Sept. 13 at Cleveland. [...]

Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress said Monday he expects Favre to play the entire first half in their next exhibition game at Houston.
Impacts: Favre was signed last Tuesday, so he missed the first preseason game against Indianapolis. He played two series against Kansas City on Friday night. Childress says it will be important for Favre to get plenty of snaps to try to build chemistry with his offensive teammates before the regular season opens Sept. 13 at Cleveland.
Favre to play entire first half
ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that Vikings' quarterback Brett Favre is expected to play the entire first half of the team's next preseason game against the Vikings. Favre played in just two series in his first game with the team last Friday.
Our View: This was expected, as the third preseason game is traditionally the one in which the starters play the most. Favre needs to get used to game speed, and he should get plenty of opportunity in his half of work.

Vikings | Favre on pitch count
Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said the team is closely monitoring the number of passes QB Brett Favre throws each practice. “You have to keep an eye on it,†Childress said. Favre threw roughly 200 passes in his first day with the New York Jets last year, which may have set himself back. "By his own admission, he probably threw 200 balls in the Jets first day of practice and probably set himself back, with the fans and the crowd," Childress said. "Trying to show off, a little bit."

Vikings | Knowing the plays and knowing the players are two different things for Favre
The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre knows the team's offensive scheme and terminology well, but chemistry and rhythm with his wide receivers is going to take some time. The receivers have tendencies and preferences, strengths and weakness, which Favre has to pick up. He said he did not miss a beat calling the plays in the huddle, but he doesn't know everything the receivers have been taught. "I think that will be an adjustment all year. It really will be," Favre said. "We've just got to get reps. There are plays we know, but do you break in? Do you break out? It's plays that I've run in the past, but every guy runs the play different."
Favre says arm feels good
News: On Brett Favre's last of eight plays in his preseason debut with Minnesota, the blitz came hard. He looked downfield for Percy Harvin, expecting the rookie to make an inside move on the Kansas City safety, but as Favre felt the rush he flinged the ball into no-man's land. It landed on the turf, and the Vikings turned to punt. "He actually kind of stuck the guy and went over the top, which is what he had been coached to do," Favre said. "I didn't know that. So that's where I need to catch up. As far as the terminology and things like that, I'm pretty much up to speed on that. I felt pretty confident about that." As for the plays he had a little over 2 days to practice? "I didn't miss a beat calling them in the huddle," Favre said, after the 17-13 exhibition victory over the Chiefs at the Metrodome on Friday night. As for the arm, well, it appears to have plenty of zip. It's the legs, though, that he's still working into shape as he takes his drops in the pocket and moves around to avoid the rush. At this stage of his career, he will probably never appear agile, but all the workouts in the world can't get a guy in true game shape. He has a tear in his rotator cuff and his arm is recovering from surgery, but that isn't his priority. "I'm probably more concerned right now with just getting my legs into shape," Favre said. "They're a little bit sore the last few days just from dropping back and just doing things that you just can't get until you start practicing. He added: "I feel real good about where my arm is right now." [...]

Favre shaky but Vikings beat Chiefs in his debut
Brett Favre jogged onto the turf to a chorus of cheers and a hero's welcome — the kind of reception he's grown used to over 18 brilliant seasons in his Hall of Fame career.
Favre makes preseason debut with Vikes
News: Camera flashes illuminated the Metrodome on each of Brett Favre's eight plays for Minnesota. Captured on film? Only one completed pass. Favre's debut was a dud in terms of on-field action, a predictably brief preseason performance in the 17-13 victory by the Vikings on Friday over the Chiefs preserved by a goal line stand by the third-stringers. Cheered loudly by the same fans who used to loathe him when he played for Green Bay, Favre played two series and went 1 for 4 for a whopping four yards. He moved around all right and his passes had zip, just no direction. Favre's night ended with a jarring hit by Chiefs linebacker Corey Mays, who buried his head in the 39-year-old's chest as he drove him into the turf to force an errant throw. Favre got up and walked off fine, his purple No. 4 jersey -- such a strange sight, for sure -- pulled down and exposing his left shoulder pad. [...]

In his first preseason action with the Vikings on Friday against Kansas City, Favre played two series and went 1 for 4 for a whopping 4 yards. He moved around all right and his passes had zip, just no direction.
Impacts: The Minnesota fans, who once hated Favre, now love the aging quarterback who's indecision to retire has been rather annoying for the rest of the NFL. Though he likely doesn't have to worry, Tarvaris Jackson, whose job was taken when Favre ended another retirement this week, was the more polished quarterback for Minnesota: 12 for 15 for 202 yards and two touchdowns.

Former NFL quarterback Rich Gannon, the 2002 league MVP, predicted
Former NFL quarterback Rich Gannon, the 2002 league MVP, predicted this week during his program on Sirius NFL Radio that Favre and Vikings coach Brad Childress would "butt heads" this season. In a phone interview with The Associated Press, Gannon later softened his analysis. He stressed, though, that even an accomplished, experienced guy like Favre can't get away with whatever he wants.
Impacts: It will be interesting to see whether Favre and Childress will co-exist. Childress is known for being a stickler for details in his West Coast scheme while Favre is a noted gunslinger. "You just can't go out there as a quarterback and start winging it," Gannon said.

Favre at risk for greater injury
According to Pro Football Talk, the partial tear in Brett Favre's rotator cuff is likely to worsen over the course of the season.
Our View: Favre has looked good so far in camp and is throwing hard, but the injury causes concern. A medical source stated that "Cleared to play does not mean cleared to play well. He's at high risk (for greater tearing) both because of trauma and his style of play." Favre could be a decent backup for fantasy leagues, but we wouldn't advise going into the season with him as your number one quarterback.

Signing Favre sends bad message to Vikings
Football is the ultimate team game and the dynamics and chemistry in the locker room are critically important to any team's success. Championship teams have a palpable aura and feeling of internal unity to them. That's the main reason I don't like the Vikings' signing of Brett Favre. The messages this move sends to the rank and file are plentiful, and most of them are not good.

Vikings get a banged-up Favre
News: Brett Favre has done an about-face for the second time in as many years and will play for the Vikings this season. It took him months to decide but less than 12 hours to go from retired future Hall of Famer to starting quarterback. Favre flew into St. Paul, Minn., Tuesday, signed his contract at Vikings headquarters and went to practice with the offense (he completed two of his first seven passes). But Favre also admitted that he's banged up: He has a small tear in the rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder that wasn't fixed when he had surgery earlier this offseason because it would have kept him out for over a year. He also has sore ankles and a bum knee. Still, Favre says he's ready for the upcoming season. "I felt I did everything I possibly could do to get where I need to be," Favre said Tuesday. "You're 39, your arm may not feel like it did at 21. But the pieces are in place that you don't have to do that much and I agree with that. If they were willing to take that chance, I was, too." Vikings get a banged-up Favre
Still, Favre says he's ready for the upcoming season. "I felt I did everything I possibly could do to get where I need to be," Favre said Tuesday. "You're 39, your arm may not feel like it did at 21. But the pieces are in place that you don't have to do that much and I agree with that. If they were willing to take that chance, I was, too." [...]

Vikings | Favre likely had rotator cuff injury for quite some time
Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre (shoulder) said his arm feels good and he can make all of the throws necessary. He said Dr. James Andrews told him his rotator cuff injury appears to have been there for awhile, and he likely has played through it previously. If he were to undergo surgery for it, he would not be able to play this year. Favre said hearing that scared him. He went on to note that he feels the Vikings are a perfect fit for him this year, but - much like last year when he joined the New York Jets - he reiterated there are no guarantees.

Favre is coming back for more. The 39-year-old quarterback turned his back on retirement for the second time in as many years, agreeing Tuesday to play for the Vikings. Favre took a morning flight on a team plane from Mississippi to Minnesota, arrived to cheering fans outside the team's practice facility and was in a helmet and pads less than 90 minutes later. His red practice jersey was the familiar No. 4, the number he wore for years with the rival Green Bay Packers.
Impacts: The team confirmed a deal was done to The Associated Press, but terms were not immediately disclosed. This is Favre's second comeback. A year ago, he came out of a short retirement to join the Jets. Favre had arthroscopic surgery to fix his throwing shoulder in May and three weeks ago told coach Brad Childress he would stay retired. In a stunning development, the gunslinger changed his mind and will return to play for Minnesota.

It's official: Vikings sign Favre
News: At long last, Brett Favre is a Viking. The team announced on its Web site that Favre has agreed to a deal, and it's expected that Favre will start for the team immediately. He even practiced with the team today, wearing a red jersey with his traditional No. 4. Favre originally turned down the Vikings, but it might have been a ruse to avoid going to training camp (the Vikings broke camp recently). "We believe adding a player such as Brett Favre to our mix will be a strong positive for this football team," coach Brad Childress said in a statement. "As we have conveyed before, his unique knowledge of our system, the NFC North and his innate skills make this a rare opportunity. We felt there was a brief window to reconsider the possibility and we owed it to the organization to evaluate our options. After thorough discussion, the same variables that made this a unique and positive situation previously, still exist. Now, our attention turns to getting to work as a team, our next practice and preparing for the season." [...]

Will Sign A Contract With Minnesota, Pending A Physical
A source close to Brett Favre said the quarterback, pending a physical, will sign a contract with the Minnesota Vikings for between $10 million to $12 million, according to ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.Vikings coach Brad Childress confirmed in an e-mail to The Associated Press Tuesday morning that Favre was traveling from Mississippi to meet with the team.Asked if the plan was to sign Favre on Tuesday, Childress replied: "In a perfect world." Favre, a longtime star in Green Bay, came out of retirement last season to play for the Jets. He retired again, only to then entertain the idea of joining the Vikings. Last month, Childress said the quarterback would stay retired. The pronouncement now appears to be premature. Two television stations reported that Favre was seen boarding a plane Tuesday morning that was headed to Minneapolis.Sources told WDAM in Hattiesburg that Favre had said: "We may know something by dinner."According to Minneapolis television station WCCO, a high-level source also said that Favre is expected to sign a deal with the Vikings on Tuesday. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Ohh, boy. Suppressing the urge to comment on the absurdity of this ongoing saga, Favre (even in his old age) is an improvement where the Vikings need it most. A slight up tick for the Vikings receivers and passing game in general should be made to your cheatsheet as we all ponder if the soon-to-be 40 year-old can make it through an entire season.

Favre already beginning next comeback?
According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, there is a strong believe amongst the players at Vikings camp that Brett Favre will play for the team at some point this season.
Our View: Please somebody make it stop. Can't the world just bask in a real Brett Favre retirement in peace? Glazer says both he and "(darn) near everybody" on the Vikings is convinced he will be back this season, and that they speak of the matter as a "when" and not an "if." He even goes so far as to say, "This is not one of those 'FOXSports.com has learned ...' scoops. Instead, it's a picture that has been painted for me and a prediction I'm making after spending my time with Zygi Wilf's squad. My prediction couldn't be more emphatic." Holy smokes.
