Before finalizing The Trade, Jets' GM Mike Tannenbaum asked
Before finalizing The Trade, Jets' GM Mike Tannenbaum asked Brett Favre for a two-year commitment, according to the New York Daily News. As we know, Favre rejected the notion and Tannenbaum did the deal regardless. "He was just trying to get me to come at first, but once we knew the deal was going to be done, he would've liked a two-year commitment," Favre revealed in his first sit-down interview with print reporters. "I said, 'Mike, let me give you the best year I can possibly give you and let's go from there.'"Favre's year-to-year position isn't news, but this was the first acknowledgement that the Jets wanted more. At the time of the trade, Tannenbaum declined to discuss the matter. When the season is over, the Jets, too, will be held captive by Favre's whims. Tannenbaum confirmed that he asked Favre for two years, adding that he's not bothered by the non-committal stance.

Coach Eric Mangini said Tuesday veteran quarterback Brett Favre
Coach Eric Mangini said Tuesday veteran quarterback Brett Favre isn’t likely to play in the Jets’ final preseason game, according to Pro Football Talk. “It would be safe to say I’m leaning towards that,” Mangini said. “He’d love to be able to get tons of work and have all the OTAs and all that stuff. It’s just not where we are right now. The most important thing to me is us getting ready as a group and getting ready for Miami. I think the more work that he does with our guys in the group, the better. [I] really look at the last preseason game as being able to evaluate individuals as opposed to the team, and it’s really important from that perspective.”He is a veteran and he doesn't need that final preseason game to get ready. He'll be there and going in Week 1.

The veteran QB wants to play in the New York Jets' preseason finale Thursday at Philadelphia, and will speak to coach Eric Mangini about getting in for a series or two. But if he's relegated to clipboard duty, Favre promises he won't be too disappointed. "I haven't talked with him about it," Favre said Monday. "I don't know what's going to happen. I would assume that he'll probably say no, and if that's the case, so be it. I'll get some practice today and tomorrow. We'll be OK. Jets quarterback Brett Favre would like for head coach Eric Mangini to shed some of the offense, making it easier for him to digest, according to the New York Post. "I had a long talk with Eric. I don't want to think, I want to react. There's got to be some middle ground there," Favre said.Favre has had trouble because the Jets and Packers use some of the same terminology, only with different meanings. Favre is a viable option as a fantasy signal-caller, though the returns may be greater a few games into the season, when he has full grasp of the offense.

Brett Favre feels like he belongs with the Jets, according to the AP. The ex-Packer said, "It’s like starting all over again. I had some feelings that I haven’t felt in 17 years. Ten days ago, I was doing yard work. I felt like I’m a Jet, I do. Believe me, I feel very comfortable here. The guys have been great. They’ve welcomed me. I feel like I’m here for a reason. As I’ve told the guys, ‘I’m here for one reason, to help you win.’ I’ll do whatever that takes and I hope it works out."Favre could bring the Jets stability at quarterback which the offense has been gravely lacking over the past few years, meaning he could help improve the fantasy value of his new team-mates, such as Jerricho Cotchery.

News: Brett Favre will make his Jets debut Saturday night when he starts against the Washington Redskins. Favre retired in March and then decided he still wanted to play, leading to a bitter divorce with Green Bay. He was acquired from the Packers last week and has been practicing with the Jets since last Saturday. Favre said his arm felt tired Wednesday and had his throws limited in his final two practices leading up to the game. Coach Eric Mangini expected Favre to take eight to 12 snaps against the Redskins. Favre has been cramming to learn as much of the playbook as he can since joining the Jets. He has looked mostly solid, with a few of the expected missteps here and there, while running the first-team offense. The 38-year-old Favre said his rocket right arm was "kind of dragging a little bit" Wednesday, but not sore, after the team's morning practice. While neither he nor the team were too concerned, Favre took noticeably fewer snaps in the evening practice after talking to coach Eric Mangini about limiting his throws. He again took it easy Thursday. While the Jets focused primarily on red-zone situations, Favre showed good zip on his passes but threw nothing too far downfield. One of his longest tosses of the day -- about 25 yards -- was thrown off his back foot and intercepted by Kerry Rhodes. "We tease him and he goes, 'I'm a little bit fatigued like we all are,' but I say, 'Yeah, but you're old,"' offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said with a chuckle. "He laughs, but he's doing good." [...]

While the fans in New York are slobbering to get in line for
While the fans in New York are slobbering to get in line for jerseys and the rest of the world seems happy to have Brett Favre with the Jets, it appears top wideout Laveranues Coles doesn't share the sentiment, according to Pro Football Talk. Sources indicate the two veterans got off on the wrong foot, believing Coles was close to Pennington and felt Favre had manipulated his way into the new digs. The two met to talk behind closed doors and, when asked, Coles refused comment, prefering to deal with it internally. Apparently Favre didn't agreed and aired the full context of the discussion and his perception of the situation to the press, and now PFT reports team sources believe this decision will make things worse. The report from PFT suggests ColesÂ’ silence isnÂ’t about the fact that the team traded for Favre. ItÂ’s about the fact that the team rewarded PenningtonÂ’s loyalty and service by throwing him out the door. Thus it would seem Coles views Favre as an egomaniac and a force out of control, and his attempt to clear the air found nothing but further reports to the public by Favre. PFT reports unnamed team sources are now worried that the relationship is strained beyond repair and could have negative effects moving forward. We'll track the situation, but needless to say these two are having trouble finding common ground.

It has changed so much, in fact, that Clemens is now fighting Brett Ratliff for the backup job to Favre.Talk about a dramatic fall. Everything isn't new for Brett Favre in New York. His former go-to guy tight end Bubba Franks is a familiar face, and is lending a helping hand, according to the AP. “I’m here when he needs me,” said Franks, who played with Favre for eight seasons with the Packers. “Our lockers are right next to each other. Even with the chance to win his starting job back potentially on the table, McCarthy said Favre couldn't seem to get past emotional wounds that were opened as tensions mounted in recent weeks. "The football team's moving forward," McCarthy said. "The train has left the station, whatever analogy you want. He needs to jump on the train and let's go. Or, if we can't get past things that have happened, I have to keep the train moving." [...]
