Cook Claims No Deal In Place For Favre
The guys at the St. Paul Pioneer Press, responding to our recent blurb regarding a certain gray-headed quarterback and a certain purple-helmeted team, asked agent Bus Cook to address whether Brett Favre is under contract with the Vikings. And, of course, Bus Cook denied it. (As they say, “He who denied it, supplied it.”) “No contract” was Cook’s [...]

Favre already a Viking?
In a strange turn of events, Profootballtalk.com stumbled onto a tip that Brett Favre may have already secretly signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
Our View: When confirming the source, PFT received only, "I will not deny it...I will leave it at that" in return. This doesn't sound completely bogus, and it's part of the swirling Favre soap opera, so why wouldn't it be true? He very well could have already signed and the Vikings are just keeping it a secret from the NFL. In another juicy tidbit, Reebok has been rumored to have already approved the production of Number 4 Vikings jerseys. Hmmm.
Profootballtalk.com "caught wind of a tip" Sunday
Profootballtalk.com "caught wind of a tip" Sunday morning that free agent Brett Favre may secretly already have signed with the Vikings. PFT then tried confirming it with a source who knows the situation for sure, and that person said only, "I will not deny it. [...]

Minnesota head coach Brad Childress says Favre is throwing without pain after recent surgery on a partially torn biceps tendon. "He's got to build some endurance in [his throwing arm] and see if he thinks he can get it back to where he wants to get it," he told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. [...]
Favre is pain-free?
Minnesota head coach Brad Childress commented that he believes Brett Favre is pain-free, according to the Star Tribune.
Our View: Favre needs to build up his endurance and stamina. Childress did not speculate that Favre will be joining the Vikings if deemed healthy. His agent (Bus Cook) may ask for more money than Minnesota is willing to shell out.
Childress Says Favre Is “Pain Free”
The quarterback who has become a major pain in the ass for many a football fan apparently no longer has any pain in his arm. Vikings coach Brad Childress, speaking with Dan Barreiro of KFAN on Friday (via the Minneapolis Star Tribune), said that quarterback Brett Favre’s right arm has healed after undergoing surgery last month. “My [...]

Favre Unimpressed With Throwing Session
Two days after Brett Favre broke his silence to Joe Buck, he spoke publicly again Wednesday to WDAM-TV in Hattiesurg, MS. At least it’s [...]
Packers Take The High Road On Favre
If there’s any bitterness in the Green Bay Packers’ locker room about veteran quarterback Brett Favre’s anticipated return to the NFL with the division rival Minnesota Vikings, then the Packers did a good job of hiding that sentiment. Judging from the comments on Favre today, per the Associated Press, the Packers are being cautious in what they say about their [...]

Favre, who had arthroscopic surgery on a partially torn biceps tendon in his right shoulder in late May, said he still feels some pain, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "I threw a couple of balls today where I really felt it...different places in my shoulder where it's sore," Favre said Wednesday. "I threw the ball OK, but OK isn't good enough in the National Football League. At least not for me, so it's got to get better." [...]

News: It's all up to Brett Favre now. Vikings owner Zygi Wilf made that much clear Wednesday night. Wilf told a group of very interested season ticket holders that the possibility of Favre playing for the Vikings next season hinges on Favre's surgically repaired right arm. "Right now, it's all up to Brett Favre in terms of where his future is at," Wilf said. "I'll just leave it at that." The comments echoed Favre's statement in an interview with HBO two days earlier. Favre said then that he is considering a return if his throwing arm will allow it and that the Vikings are the only team has has spoken to about a comeback. Dr. James Andrews performed surgery on Favre on May 22 to address an injured biceps tendon. After throwing to high school students on Wednesday at Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Miss., Favre told WDAM-TV that he wasn't ready yet. "Dr. Andrews said more or less four weeks you should know if (surgery) was completely successful," Favre said on Wednesday, about 3.5 weeks after the surgery. "I threw a couple of balls today where I really felt it ... different places in my shoulder where it's sore. I threw the ball OK, but OK isn't good enough in the NFL. At least not for me. So it's got to get better." [...]

Wilf says it's up to Favre
Vikings owner Zigi Wylf seems to be eager to add Brett Favre to his team. The Pioneer Press reports that the owner told them, "Right now, it's all up to Brett Favre to determine where his future is at." Coach Brad Childress added, "He's making a push to come back. He won't play, unless he feels he's capable of playing at the level he's played over the course of years. I know he's working hard to get there."
Our View: Favre is working out in Mississippi...with a high school team. He is not satisfied with his arm at this point, but it seems inevitable that he signs with the Vikings. However, you can probably expect him to wait until the last minute so that he doesn't have to exert himself too much in these petty offseason workouts.

Ben Leber Understands The Power Of “We”
The most significant aspect of Brett Favre’s appearance on Joe Buck Artie Lange Live, in our view, was the use of the term “we” on a couple of occasions by the “retired” quarterback. Unless he has sprouted a second head, “we” connotes a mental and emotional connection to the football team with which he has yet [...]

Favre Plays Coy on Talk Show
Last night on Joe Buck's HBO show, Buck asked Brett Favre directly whether or not it was his intention to play football this coming season. Favre waited a beat, then answered maybe . He got a laugh and applause from the crowd, and Buck--only half-jokingly--told the crowd not to encourage him.

News: Brett Favre will know in several weeks whether his surgically repaired arm will allow him to come out of retirement again. The quarterback made his first public comments since retiring in an interview Monday night on "Joe Buck Live." He said the only team he has spoken to is the Vikings - and that they would be a perfect fit because he's familiar with their offense. The three-time NFL MVP said Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago on his throwing arm. Andrews told him it would take 4-5 weeks to know if he'll be able to make all the throws he needs to. Favre said Vikings coach Brad Childress wanted him to attend Minnesota's recent organized team activities, but he declined. Asked by Buck if he would play this season, Favre replied, "Um ... " After a pause, he said, "Maybe." [...]

News: Eventually, the Minnesota Vikings will need to know: Is Brett Favre going to play or not? The Vikings aren't showing any public impatience with the NFL's all-time leading passer, even though Favre's annual waffling over his retirement continues to cloud preparations for the season. Even the uncertainty at quarterback - will it be Tarvaris Jackson, Sage Rosenfels or Favre? - isn't enough to get coach Brad Childress to declare an end to the will-he-or-won't-he dance that's gone on for weeks. Childress said he called Favre last week, declining to elaborate on the conversation. With Favre's right arm reportedly recovering from surgery, Childress will surely want to see the 39-year-old throw before the team gives him a contract. Childress hasn't come close to suggesting Favre make up his mind soon. Asked if Favre can still be a great quarterback, the coach said this: "Don't know. Don't know. Stay tuned." [...]

Vikings coach Brad Childress admitted after Thursday's OTA that he spoke with Brett Favre last week, according to the Star-Tribune.

Brett Favre: Click through to see the headline! It’s true. Unless he’s arrested, we will not mention Brett Favre again on this site until he signs with the Vikings. Coach Brad Childress said Wednesday on KFAN Radio that he has not set a deadline for Favre (shoulder) to decide whether he will play for the Vikings this coming season, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports. "Absolutely not," there was no deadline, Childress said. "Maybe by [Favre's wife] Deanna or somebody like that, but certainly not from me. Not even close. Don't know where that would have dropped out of the sky from." [...]
Childress says no deadline for Favre
Head coach Brad Childress told KFAN radio in Minneapolis that no deadline exists for the potential signing of quarterback Brett Favre, ProFootballTalk.com reports.
Our View: Childress echoes what the Minneapolis Star Tribune previously reported. For now, the only thing fantasy owners need to know is that Favre is not a member of the Vikings. Until he signs, all the rumors are simply white noise.
ESPN is reporting that the Vikings have temporarily suspended
News: ESPN is reporting that the Vikings have temporarily suspended their plan of getting Brett Favre out of retirement and will instead focus on the quarterbacks they have on the roster now. The Vikings are starting a three-day OTA session on Wednesday. However, this does not mean the club won't be interested in Favre down the road. Favre reportedly has turned down the Vikings for now because he's not happy with where his arm is at following arthroscopic surgery earlier this offseason. And in a new development, Vikings coach Brad Childress dismissed the idea of a deadline for Favre to show up. "Absolutely not," Childress said on KFAN-AM radio. "Maybe by Deanna [Favre] or somebody like that, but certainly not from me. Not even not even close. [I] don't know where that dropped out of the sky from. ... I don't know how you guys in that industry go about your sourcing. 'A source that a source said.' I don't know. It's questionable. Very questionable." [...]

Vikings Halting Favre Pursuit, For Now
The Minnesota Vikings were apparently serious about that deadline they had imposed for quarterback Brett Favre to end his retirement and show up for practice. Favre deadline story "made up"
The Minneapolis Star Tribune is reporting that the ESPN story saying the Vikings have imposed a deadline on Brett Favre to decide whether or not he will play with the team in 2009 is "made up."
Our View: What is not "made up" is the never ending "will he or won't he" saga that Brett Favre has so embarrassingly become these last few seasons. We wish we could say this will be the last note on Favre you will ever read, but that would make us liars two hours later.

News: After weeks of little news involving retired QB Brett Favre, the rumor mill is churning. On the same day ESPN reported that Favre had arthroscopic surgery earlier this offseason to repair a torn biceps tendon in his throwing shoulder, the network also reported that the Vikings have issued a deadline to Favre for a decision on whether or not he will unretire. However, NFL.com's Pat Kirwan reports that no such deadline exists, citing Vikings sources. "Favre is on his way to Minnesota and it may be around July 15," Kirwan said on his SIRIUS NFL Radio show. "It might be earlier. ... Maybe it's better if he comes in at a quiet period of time and gets ready to roll. But ... I think he's on his way in. Friday may come and Friday may go and it will have nothing to do with him in a purple uniform." [...]

If Brett Favre wants to play for the Minnesota Vikings, then the indecisive retired quarterback needs to make up his mind fast, according to Chris Mortensen and Ed Werder of ESPN.com. Vikings set deadline for Favre decision
According to ESPN.com, the Vikings and coach Brad Childress have imposed a deadline of this week on Brett Favre for his decision on his status for next season. Favre has said he wants to test his shoulder to make sure he is capable of playing next year.
Our View: It seems like a strange move by the Vikes to set a deadline for Favre if they really want him. First, he won't be able to throw at full strength for another month or so, which makes it difficult to make a decision. Next, Favre has shown that when he gets pressured by a team, he tends to get angry and stick it to them. Don't be shocked if this deadline is lifted, because it is unlikely Favre will commit this week.

Favre could throw in two weeks
Peter King of SI.com is reporting that Brett Favre is expected to be able to being throwing in the next two weeks and to be throwing without pain in four weeks. It is expected that, if he shows he is healthy in July, that the Vikings will attempt to sign him to a one-year deal. "It'll be an upset if Favre doesn't attempt a comeback with Minnesota now," said King.
Our View: Peter King has been all over the Brett Favre saga, so everyone should believe what he has to say. It sounds like the surgery went down about 10-12 days ago, and if King is convinced Favre is coming back, the everyone else should be as well.
It Seems Like Brett Favre Will Partake in Vikings Training Camp
Brett Favre: The petulant one had surgery on his damaged throwing shoulder late last month. The only logical conclusion one could draw is that the Vikings told Favre that if he were to return, he’d have to attend training camp in late July; hence, the surgery, which takes 6-12 weeks to recover from. The only

Favre has surgery
According to ESPN.com, Brett Favre underwent surgery on the torn biceps in his throwing arm.
Our View: The fact that Favre had the surgery likely means that he intends to try and play this season. He tried to avoid the procedure with cortisone shots and physical therapy, but the methods were ineffective. His comeback is now hinged on how well he heals and performs post surgery.
