Rosenfels in close competition with Jackson
The competition between Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson has been heated at OTAs this past weekend, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Our View: Head coach Brad Childress' liking of Jackson has been well documented throughout the past few years, though Rosenfels looked good this weekend and does have the bigger contract. At this point it looks like the Week 1 starter is anybody's guess, though a possible Brett Favre return would put both men on the backburner.

Marcellus Wiley Vs. Fran Tarkenton, Round 3
The recent comments from Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton regarding retired (for now) quarterback Brett Favre sparked an intriguing side battle between Tarkenton and former NFL defensive end Marcellus Wiley. Wiley played the “grumpy old man” card on Tarkenton, and then Tarkenton looked down his nose at Wiley’s “minimal playing career.” On Friday, Wiley talked about [...]
Legendary QB Spews Venom at Favre
Packersnews.com reports that Former Minnesota Vikings great Fran Tarkenton would like to see Brett Favre end his retirement to play quarterback in Minnesota. But that isn’t because Tarkenton wants to see Favre succeed. “I kind of hope it happens, so he can fail,” Tarkenton told an Atlanta radio station Tuesday.
Jackson thinks QB battle is at 50-50
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that Tarvaris Jackson believes the quarterback battle between him and Sage Rosenfels is at 50-50 right now. "We're going to fight for it as hard as we can," Jackson told the paper.
Our View: This could all be a moot point if the Vikes land Brett Favre, but it would seem like Jackson would have the slight edge since he has been in the system longer. Rosenfels is probably the better quarterback, but Jackson has more upside.
Fran Keeps Bringing The Heat
Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton is nearly 70. But he’s not afraid to continue to mix it up regarding the Brett Favre situation. Earlier this week, Fran filleted Favre for his recent retirement/unretirement habit. And Fran was back on the air today with 790 The Zone in Atlanta (via SportsRadioInterviews.com) to talk about the firestorm [...]
Fran Tarkenton is Not a Favre Fan
Tarkenton on Favre: “I think it’s despicable. What he put the Packers through last year was not good. Here’s an organization that was loyal to him for 17, 18 years, provided stability of organization, provided players. It just wasn’t about Brett Favre. In this day and time, we have glorified the Brett Favre’s of the

Vikings Want Favre Decision This Week
All has been quiet on the Brett Favre front for nearly a week. Even with Mike Vick eclipsing Favre on the SportsCenter loop, Favre has resisted the temptation to make news. But there’s a development. It comes not from the Favre camp, but from the team with which he has been linked ever since the knees of [...]
Brady, Favre headline never-dull NFL offseason
Busy week. Late May, Memorial Day, and still the NFL doesn't slow up. TV deals, a ruling in the StarCaps case, the Brett Favre story (very quietly) heating up, debating the schedule expanding from 16 to either 18 or 17 games, Mike Vick living in home confinement, Tom Brady returning to practice with his team Tuesday for the first time in 37 weeks, Terrell Owens blaming Tony Romo for his Dallas demise, and the best special-teamer in football going on a wildcat strike. Did someone say "offseason?''

Vikes' Childress: Favre remains retired
Words about Brett Favre's retirement always include a qualifier, and Vikings coach Brad Childress offered the latest: "As far as I know." Childress declined Thursday to close the door on signing the famously flip-flopping quarterback, who declared for a second time in February he was done with football for good.

News: The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports the Vikings appear to be moving on without QB Brett Favre. Coach Brad Childress said Thursday that "as far as I know (Brett Favre) is still retired," but declined to completely close the door on the QB coming out of retirement to play for the Vikings. Childress acknowledged he has spoken with Favre on the phone but added the two have not talked in several weeks. "He's retired, so it's not relevant and it's not any of my focus right now," Childress said. "I'm really focused on the guys that are here on this football team, both old and young." [...]

In a Thursday press conference, Vikings coach Brad Childress generally indicated that he’s interested in quarterback Brett Favre, but Childress didn’t sound encouraged about the possibility that Favre will join the team. “As far as I know, he’s still retired,” Childress said. And there’s that handy qualifier again – “as far as I know.” Absent a polygraph machine or telepathy [...]
Vikes' Childress: Favre remains retired
Brad Childress says Brett Favre "was worth a conversation," but the Vikings coach insists the veteran quarterback remains retired -- as far as he knows. Childress addressed the subject Thursday after the team practiced at Winter Park. He says the last time he spoke with Favre was on the phone several weeks ago.
Sage Rosenfels Is Avoiding Us
We recently mentioned that Vikings quarterback Sage Rosenfels is a card-carrying member of PFT Planet. But, on Thursday, he explained that he temporarily has surrendered his membership. Asked during a post-practice media session about whether he understands the team’s apparent interest in quarterback Brett Favre, Sage essentially said that he’s avoiding us like the H1N1 virus. “As I said, I don’t [...]

After illness, Harvin back with Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings have assembled for practice, without Brett Favre. But rookie Percy Harvin has eagerly arrived for duty. The first-round draft pick out of Florida missed the team's rookie minicamp earlier this month when he was hospitalized for a virus and severe dehydration. Agent Joel Segal confirmed Tuesday that Harvin is participating in voluntary practice sessions this week.
It’s Not Even Funny Anymore, Brett. Stop the Charade.
Brett Favre: Just so we’re clear … any news that emerges from Minnesota can be labeled ‘hopeful’ and is coming from Vikings HQ … and any news that’s coming from ESPN is probably via text message from Favre himself, right? Did we get that correct? Hell, we’ve lost track of this story. Glad to see

No Favre Comeback Sequel
Odds are strong against any Brett Favre comeback. Favre, according to his agent, Bus Cook, isn't working out to stay in football shape. Favre's main exercise is cutting grass and working on his ranch. His release from the Jets on Tuesday was more to free him up eventually to sign a ceremonial contract with the Packers -- and retire as a member of the Packers. Cook is adamant that Favre has played his last game of football. Still looking for work: It was a little surprising that former...

Eagles put on a draft clinic
First, a Brett Favre prelude. A semi-brief Favre prelude. I don't know what he's going to do. But I, like some of you, am suspicious. There's no good reason to ask for his release from the Jets unless it's to leave open the option to play again. I am told he may be feeling the urge to play again.
