Broncos would trade Marshall?
The Broncos have reportedly discussed trading Brandon Marshall with multiple undisclosed NFL teams, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
Our View: Head coach Josh McDaniels stated that the Broncos won't be trading the star receiver, so chalk this news up as a rumor for now. He may be harder to move while coming off hip surgery.

News: Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels told NBC on Sunday night that in spite of Marshall's suspension for conduct detrimental to the team, he wants him to be a part of the Broncos come Week 1. "Sure, that's our intent," McDaniels said. "That's absolutely the end game." [...]
Royal taking on big role
Eddie Royal caught five passes for 44 yards in Sunday's preseason game against the Bears.
Our View: Royal has been used a ton already, catching 13 passes in his three preseason contests, and the Broncos will likely build their offense around his versatility. With Brandon Marshall on the outs Royal could be the guy in Denver. He could be a mid-round steal in drafts this year.
Gaffney out with broken thumb
According to the Denver Post, Jabar Gaffney is expected to miss "several weeks" due to a fractured thumb he suffered in practice on Friday.
Our View: With Gaffney likely to miss at least a few games this season, Brandon Marshall may see some action even without learning the playbook. The Broncos are now dangerously thin at WR and need Marshall more than ever.

NFL: Denver In A Catch-22
Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall was caught on video acting unprofessional during the team's practice Wednesday, Aug. 26. Marshall nonchalantly worked through a high-step running drill between cushioned obstacles during the practice, and then punting the ball away after the drill was finished. Marshall did not take his turn in running routes or catching passes in another drill, instead accepting the task of using a blocking dummy to knock receivers off their route....

Marshall skips Friday's practice
According to TheDenverChannel.com, disgruntled Broncos' receiver Brandon Marshall was not at practice on Friday after taking heat for his antics at practice on Thursday. Coach Josh McDaniels refused to comment on Marshall after practice was over.
Our View: The Marshall saga has come to a head in Denver, and now that he has been suspended by the team for the rest of the preseason it seems very possible that his next NFL reception could be for a different squad. It is getting to a point where it will be nearly impossible for Marshall to suit up for the Broncs, so watch for a trade in the coming weeks.
Broncos suspend Marshall
News: Pro Bowl WR Brandon Marshall, openly unhappy with the Broncos, was suspended by the team through Sept. 5 for what coach Josh McDaniels called "detrimental" conduct. Marshall, who has brooded since demanding a trade and asking for a new contract, was informed of the suspension by McDaniels on Friday. "We tried to handle this situation with Brandon as privately and professionally as we could throughout the entire process with he and his agent, Kennard McGuire," McDaniels said at a news conference. "This morning, we made the decision as an organization to go ahead and suspend Brandon and that suspension will last through Sept. 5th. We'll look forward to having him back on Sept. 6th as we begin our preparations for Cincinnati" in a Sept. 13 opener. McDaniels did not single out a specific episode but said the suspension resulted from a series of incidents. "He was given a warning Wednesday about his conduct being detrimental to the club and his actions didn't really change after that warning," McDaniels said. "That leads us to today." The warning to Marshall was issued prior to Wednesday's practice, McDaniels said. Marshall then went out during pre-practice warmups and walked while the rest of the team ran. He punted a ball away instead of handing it to a ball boy and swatted a pass thrown to him. [...]

Marshall eligible to return September 7
Updating a previous report, Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting on his Twitter page that the suspension to Brandon Marshall lasts through September 6 and he is eligible to return to the team September 7.
Our View: As Schefter says in his post, Marshall got off easy here. The team doesn't open the season until the following week, so he could play in the team's season opener if he is not traded. Forcing him to miss a few preseason games isn't much of a punishment.

Broncos suspend Marshall
News: The Denver Broncos have suspended WR Brandon Marshall for conduct detrimental to the club Friday. This comes after a report aired on a Denver TV station Wednesday where Marshall appeared nonchalant during drills and was caught punting the ball away when the drill was finished. The Denver Post reports Marshall was held out of practice Thursday, but he was at the team's headquarters during the session. It appears Marshall was held out for punitive reasons for his conduct during practice Wednesday. The duration of the suspension has not yet been determined. Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league and the NFL Player's Association, the maximum suspension for conduct detrimental to the team is four games. [...]
Marshall Suspended, Rest Of Preseason
Could Return Week 1
For his punt and other acts of misbehavior, the Broncos have given receiver Brandon Marshall the boot. The Broncos have suspended Marshall for conduct detrimental to the team."I'm not out there trying to be a distraction to the team," Marshall said. "Unfortunately, yesterday I kind of let my frustration get the best of me."Marshall's apology Thursday night on ESPN was too late. The punishment stems from Marshall's shameful display of unprofessionalism during practice Wednesday. He was lackadaisical during individual running drills. He didn't run routes or catch passes during another position drill, instead choosing to hold a dummy and knocking the receivers as they came off the line.A KMGH-7 video caught Marshall punting the ball away after one drill instead of handing it to a ball boy, as the players are told.Marshall was held out of practice Wednesday, but that was before the Broncos were aware of the magnitude of his insubordination.Broncos coach Josh McDaniels decided to suspend Marshall this morning. The length of the suspension is not known although Marshall is not expected to play in the Broncos' next preseason game Sunday night against the Chicago Bears and his former quarterback, Jay Cutler. (Denver Post)
FF Today's Take: Marshall's antics are getting tired and his quote about "not trying to be a distraction to the team" is absolutely hilarious. Marshall is ticking fantasy time bomb and while he is easily one of the more talented receivers in the game, he's falling further and further down fantasy draft boards due to his incredible risk.

Impacts: Marshall has been open about his unhappiness with the Broncos and asked for a new contract or a trade. He acknowledged he hasn't learned new coach Josh McDaniels' playbook and was held out of last Sunday's preseason game at Seattle. During Wednesday's warmups, Marshall walked while the rest of the team was running. He punted a ball away instead of handing it to a ball boy and swatted a pass thrown to him. His actions were caught on video and aired by KMGH-TV.

Marshall suspended by Broncos
ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that the Broncos have suspended wide receiver Brandon Marshall for conduct detrimental to the team. Under the collective bargaining agreement, the team can only suspend Marshall for a maximum of four games.
Our View: It sounds like the Broncos have finally had enough of Marshall, and this could signal that he is on his way out. At this point, the Broncos have put themselves in a bad position to get a big return for Marshall, so it seems likely that they will have to move him for less than he is worth. We will keep you updated on the ongoing Brandon Marshall saga.

Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall was caught on video acting unprofessional during the team’s practice Wednesday, Aug. 26. Marshall nonchalantly worked through a high-step running drill between cushioned obstacles during the practice, and then punting the ball away after the drill was finished. During an interview with ESPN’s NFL Live Thursday, Aug. 27, Marshall said, “Me punting the ball was definitely frustration. It was an error in judgment. There was a lot of frustration yesterday coming out of a meeting” Marshall did not take his turn in running routes or catching passes in another drill, instead accepting the task of using a blocking dummy to knock receivers off their route. Marshall was caught batting a ball away at the end of the same drill. Marshall implied some of the video was taken out of context.

McDaniels refuses to talk Marshall
News: Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall appears unlikely to make his preseason debut in Sunday night's exhibition against the Chicago Bears after missing practice again. Marshall, who had offseason hip surgery, has missed most of the team's training camp with a hamstring problem. He also has requested a trade after clashing with the organization and new coach Josh McDaniels over his desire for a new contract. McDaniels refused to specify the reasons for Marshall's absence from practice. He had returned to practice Tuesday, and McDaniels had said he participated fully in the team's drills. However, Marshall appeared to hold himself out of some pre-practice warmup drills Wednesday -- the only portion of the team's workout open to the media -- and was nowhere to be seen on Thursday. During a brief post-practice news conference, McDaniels refused to say whether Marshall's absence was health-related. "I'm not going into it," he said. "If they're not ready or able, they're not out here." McDaniels was then asked if Marshall was on the premises. "I don't know where he's at right now. He was in the building this morning," McDaniels replied. [...]

The Marshall Saga Continues
WR Not "Ready And Able" To Practice
The soap opera between receiver Brandon Marshall and the Broncos continues. Marshall was held out of practice on Thursday, and all coach Josh McDaniels would say is he wasn't "ready and able" to practice. He wouldn't say if it was health related, although Marshall did not appear hurt after Wednesday's practice.McDaniels wasn't happy to answer more questions about Marshall, and seemed to get upset when reporters didn't stop asking about Marshall after he issued the decree that he wouldn't go into specifics about his absence."I'm not going to talk about it," McDaniels said. "There's a number of reasons why a guy might not be able to able and ready to go out here, and without going into detail on everybody's situation, that's either my decision or the training staff's decision that the guy can't go out here and do what we ask him to do. That's the criteria."Marshall hasn't played yet in the preseason. Last week he said he felt healthy, but didn't know the playbook. He did not make the trip with the team. (Colorado Springs Gazette)
FF Today's Take: This situation is getting toxic. Offseason hip surgery and a QB change was enough to knock him from the WR1 ranks and this situation is quickly eroding whatever value he could have provided as a WR2. At this point, Marshall is becoming one of this season's biggest fantasy risks.
Marshall misses Broncos practice again
Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall appears unlikely to make his preseason debut in Sunday night's exhibition against the Chicago Bears after missing practice again.
Marshall unlikely to play Sunday
Updating an earlier report, Brandon Marshall is unlikely to make his preseason debut in Sunday's game against the Bears after missing Thursday's practice, according to the Associated Press.
Our View: Head coach John McDaniels remains mum on exactly why Marshall was unable to practice. Marshall looks to be a high-risk, high-reward fantasy pick for 2009. Try to get him as a No. 3 receiver if possible.

Broncos would trade Marshall
According to a report from the Denver Post, the Broncos would be willing to trade wide receiver Brandon Marshall if a team offered them a first and a fourth-round pick. Marshall is coming off hip surgery, and it seems unlikely that a team would offer that for a troubled receiver who may not be 100 percent.
Our View: It looks like the Broncos know that there is very little chance that they will be able to move Marshall, so they are going to go forward with him in the fold. If Marshall shows he is completely healthy he could spark some interest, but it looks like he will be a Bronco for the 2009 season.

News: Brandon Marshall may be back in the mix offensively at practice but it remains unclear whether the Broncos' disgruntled wideout will make his preseason debut in Denver's game Sunday against Chicago. Denver coach Josh McDaniels said Marshall was fully involved in Tuesday's practice, the team's first workout since Saturday's 27-13 loss at Seattle. The practice, which was closed to the media, was cut short about 45 minutes because of bad weather. "He did everything that we were doing there, he did our drills," McDaniels said. "We didn't get to finish practice obviously, but it was a nice crisp practice today." He said it was too early to say whether Marshall would make his first appearance in the Chicago game, which already features the return of former Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler. McDaniels: Marshall will be back Tuesday

And everybody we deemed not ready and able stayed back home," Broncos first-year coach Josh McDaniels said late Saturday night after Denver's 27-13 loss. The coach added he "absolutely" expected Marshall to participate when the Broncos return to practice Tuesday. Marshall spent two days last week working almost exclusively with the scout team after saying he was nowhere near mastering the new offense. Marshall did not travel with the team for their last preseason game, and he has expressed his desire to be traded due to his unhappiness with the Broncos.

Marshall Left At Home
Didn't Travel To Seattle For Tonight's Preseason Game
Denver Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall didn't travel with the team for a Saturday night preseason game in Seattle. Marshall, who has completely recovered from offseason hip surgery and is ready to play, has most recently expressed dismay with the Broncos over their refusal to redo his contract or trade him, and with their handling of his acquittal on battery charges last week, when players were told by a staffer not to say they were happy for him. Marshall had boycotted the Broncos' offseason workouts, at first to recover from the surgery but then in protest of his contract and what he felt was the team's misdiagnosis of his hip injury. Coach Josh McDaniels said after practice Thursday that he hadn't decided on playing plans for Marshall, who missed the preseason opener at San Francisco last week while attending his court case in Atlanta. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: This situation is getting uglier by the day. On the field, Marshall is capable of being a top fantasy wide receiver but his off-field distractions are making him a huge risk for fantasy owners. Continue to bump Marshall down your cheatsheet and Eddie Royal up.

Broncos | Likely will eventually suspend Marshall
Bob Glauber, of Newsday, speculates the Denver Broncos likely will eventually suspend WR Brandon Marshall for conduct detrimental to the team.
Suspension on the way for Marshall?
Newsday's Bob Glauber believes Brandon Marshall will be suspended by the Broncos for conduct detrimental to the team, as reported via his Twitter account.
Our View: Glauber says that the situation reminds him of T.O.'s second year in Philadelphia. If that's the case, Marshall and the Broncos could be in for a rude awakening. If he does get suspended, his fantasy value will take yet another monster hit.

Marshall needs to learn playbook
The Denver Post reports that receiver Brandon Marshall has been practicing with the scout-team offense and isn't getting reps with the starters.
Our View: Marshall's fantasy status as a number one receiver could be in serious jeopardy. Marshall isn't even close to knowing the team's offensive playbook and won't get a serious look in preseason until he learns it. The staff values the system more than individual talent, so, talented as he is, Marshall is no help to the team until he learns the system. He's also still whining about a trade.

Jets Out To Acquire A Top WR
In Talks With Broncos, Chiefs Regarding Marshall, Bowe
The Jets are known for making deals in August - remember some guy named Favre? - and they're thinking trade once again. They're exploring the wide-receiver market and have held preliminary discussions with a few teams, according to NFL sources. Although he's not officially on the trading block, the biggest name on the Jets' radar is the Broncos' Brandon Marshall, who has issued a pay me-or-trade me demand. At this point, the Jets are only monitoring the Marshall situation in Denver. The Broncos reportedly have no interest in trading Marshall, 25, one of the top young receivers in the league, but they also said the same thing about quarterback Jay Cutler - and now he's playing for the Bears. Because of off-the-field issues, a surgically repaired hip and enormous contract demands (he's entering the final year), Marshall would be a risk for any team. But there's no denying his talent: 206 catches and 2,590 yards over the last two seasons. At 6-4, he'd be a much-needed target in the red zone for the Jets. While they consider Marshall a long shot, they're not about to summarily dismiss it. The Jets have one of the most inexperienced receiving corps in the league, the reliable Jerricho Cotchery and four other veterans with a combined total of 110 catches. The organization doesn't believe the picture is as bleak as some are painting it, but it wouldn't mind adding a proven playmaker. If the Jets do add a veteran, it probably won't be a free agent such as Marvin Harrison. Another name to watch is the Chiefs' Dwayne Bowe, a former first-round pick. He caught 86 balls for 1,022 yards on an awful team last season, but he's had a difficult transition under new coach Todd Haley. He may have played his way out of the doghouse with five catches in the preseason opener, but the Chiefs are rebuilding and will move a player if he doesn't fit their long-term plans. (The NY Daily News)
FF Today's Take: There's no doubt it will take a substantial offer to pry Marshall out of Denver, or Bowe out of Kansas City, but it would certainly make life easier for rookie QB Mark Sanchez this season. The good news for Jets fans is that recent reports suggest that Marshall is nearing his breaking point in Denver. Could a trade be on the near horizon?
Marshall at major odds with Denver
News: Following the way the Broncos handled his acquittal on misdemeanor battery charges last week, WR Brandon Marshall is unhappy again. In his first public comments on the matter, Marshall said after Wednesday morning's practice that he was disappointed a member of the team's public relations staff told his teammates not to gloat over his acquittal in an Atlanta courtroom last Friday. Marshall, who wants a new contract or a trade, said the directive, which he believes came from higher up in the organization, has fostered "trust issues" between him and the team. He added that he's "not close at all" to being comfortable with the team's new playbook, and asked if he would be open to a long-term contract in Denver or if he just wants out, Marshall spoke volumes with his non-answer: "I'm here now. I love playing football. Thats what makes me happy." [...]

Cutler upsets Hester with comments
Jay Cutler has reportedly upset some people in the locker room after his comments regarding wide receiver Devin Hester, according to Slam! Sports. Cutler told the media after the Bears' first preseason game that Hester should have broken up the interception that he threw to the Bills' Leodis McKelvin and said "Devin is more of a go-get-it guy; he is not really a back shoulder or jump-up-and-get-it guy."
Our View: It can't be good that Cutler is already blaming his wide receivers for his interceptions, because it will be a long season in Chicago if he continues to do that all year. Cutler has really come under fire for his attitude this summer, and this isn't helping win over anyone in the locker room. Cutler needs to get used to not having Brandon Marshall there to throw to every down, because Hester is the guy he is dealing with now.

However, as reported earlier, Marshall took part in the team's practice Sunday, Aug. 16. He said he felt a little rusty during the workouts and was a little bit disappointed in his performance.
Marshall returns to gridiron Sunday
News: Brandon Marshall returned to practice on Sunday for the Denver Broncos. Marshall had missed over a week of workouts with a leg injury. On Friday, a jury in Atlanta had found him not guilty of misdemeanor battery against his former girlfriend. "For almost a year and a half now I've been swearing to my teammates and the community that I'm not that guy that they were portraying me to be," Marshall said about the trial and the case made against him. "Finally, to stand in front of a jury where they finally see both sides and for it to be a fair stage, the truth finally came out. There are going to be those who still believe otherwise, but the truth came out on Friday." Marshall hauled in a short TD pass from rookie quarterback Tom Brandstater on his first catch of the day. Later on he reached back behind him to deflect a pass forward with his left hand and snare with right on a pass thrown by Kyle Orton. He also let passes bounce off his hands in the back of the end zone. "I felt rusty today, kind of disappointed in my performance," Marshall said. "But it's the first day so I will get better." [...]

Marshall Found Not Guilty
Misdemeanor Battery
A jury in Atlanta found Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall not guilty of misdemeanor battery against his former girlfriend, announcing its verdict Friday after about an hour of deliberations. Marshall had faced two counts of simple battery stemming from a March 4, 2008, argument with then-girlfriend Rasheedah Watley at the Atlanta condominium the couple shared. "I'm just happy now that legally and emotionally we can move past this," he said, adding that he appreciated the support of teammates and fans. He said he planned to celebrate Friday night by watching his teammates in an offseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. (AP)
FF Today's Take: It appears the off-field issues are behind him for now but Marshall is still recuperating from hip surgery last spring, and remains unhappy with Broncos management. As a result, his his current ADP has moved down to 4.03 (12-team leagues).

Marshall waiting on jury
According to the Denver Post, Brandon Marshall's misdemeanor batter trial has ended. The jury is currently deliberating over a verdict.
Our View: Marshall's fate lies in the jury's hands. If he is found guilty, he'll likely face not only the court's punishment, but also an additional one from Commissioner Roger Goodell. If he is exonerated he's less likely to have a "chat" with the Commish. We'll keep you posted on the verdict.

Trial continues for Marshall
News: Testimony will continue in Atlanta in the trial of Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who faces a misdemeanor battery charge. The charges stem from a March 2008 argument with then-girlfriend Rasheedah Watley at the downtown Atlanta condominium the couple shared. Watley testified Thursday that Marshall shoved her and bloodied her lip after she got a text message on her cell phone from a male friend. Marshall was present during the proceedings in Fulton County State Court. The judge told jurors Thursday he expects both sides to wrap up Friday. Marshall was suspended for last year's season opener after a series of domestic disputes. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said a conviction in this case could lead to a second suspension. [...]
Testimony continues in trial of Broncos' Marshall
Testimony will continue in Atlanta in the trial of Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who faces a misdemeanor battery charge.
Marshall's battery case begins
News: An ex-girlfriend of Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall told a jury on Thursday that the player shoved her, threw her around and gave her a bloody lip after she received a text message from a male friend. Marshall was on trial for a misdemeanor battery charge in the March 4, 2008, dispute with Rasheedah Watley at the Atlanta condominium they shared. Marshall was suspended for last year's season opener after a series of domestic conflicts. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said a conviction in this case could lead to a second suspension. Prosecutor Robert Bembridge opened by saying evidence would show Marshall "did use his hands for all the wrong reasons" on a woman he outweighs by more than 100 pounds. Defense lawyer Harvey Steinberg characterized Watley as an aggressive woman who was afraid her relationship with Marshall was ending and saw it as a "lottery ticket that was going to be lost." [...]

Marshall Verdict Likely Coming Friday
Jury To Rule On 2008 Altercation Between WR and Ex-Girlfriend
When the Brandon Marshall trial is presented to the jury - most likely Friday morning - the four women and two men must reach a unanimous verdict.Through his line of questioning, Marshall attorney Harvey Steinberg appears to want the court to realize that it was 1) the plaintiff, Rasheedah Watley, who was the aggressor during the altercation on March 4, 2008 and that Marshall was always in a defensive mode, and 2) Watley went forward with pressing charges in hopes of ultimately receiving a financial settlement. (Denver Post)
FF Today's Take: This legal decision should be the final one Marshall has to encounter for a while, assuming he doesn't find himself in more trouble during the season. Given his off-field history, a verdict in the favor of the plantiff (Watley) would likely lead to a lengthy suspension from the league, which is just another reason - in addition to his offseason hip surgery - to not count on Marshall this season in fantasy.

Broncos | Marshall not discussing settlement, plea agreement
Mike Klis and Lindsay H. Jones, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall will face trial Thursday, Aug. 13, on a misdemeanor battery charge in the Georgia State Court of Fulton Court. There have been no discussions regarding a settlement or plea agreement between Marshall and the alleged victim, Rasheedah Watley. Watley is expected to be among several witnesses to testify. Stokley turning heads at camp
Slam! Sports is reporting that Broncos' wide receiver Brandon Stokley has been turning heads at training camp. It would appear as if Stokely has passed Jabar Gaffney on the depth chart as the team's number three receiver.
Our View: Coach Josh McDaniels discussed the depth chart that was released this week, and said the Gaffney replaced the injured Brandon Marshall on the first team. This would seem to indicate that Stokely is in line to start, and if he continues to develop a rapport with Kyle Orton, he could be worth of a bench slot on fantasy rosters.

Broncos | McDaniels discusses listing B. Marshall on second-string
Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels said the league requires the team to put out an initial depth chart for their first preseason game, but was quick to point out that is not the team's official depth chart. "We don't have any starters right now," McDaniels said. "We have competition everywhere." He said WR Brandon Marshall was listed on the second team because he has a personal situation he needs to attend to and won't be able to play. "Jabar Gaffney is going to start in his place. It is very simple. There is nothing other than that to that entire story," McDaniels added.
Marshall out for first preseason game
News: Broncos coach Josh McDaniels on Tuesday downplayed the team's initial depth chart that has WR Brandon Marshall not in the starting lineup. McDaniels said this has more to do with Marshall being out with hip and hamstring/leg injuries and less to do with Marshall being demoted to send a message. McDaniels also indicated Marshall will miss the first preseason game Friday at San Francisco since he has a court date Thursday in Atlanta on a misdemeanor battery charge. "That is not our depth chart," McDaniels said. "We don't have any starters right now. We have competition everywhere. The league mandates that we put out a roster for who is going to start in the first preseason game, and Brandon has a personal situation that he is going to attend to and won't be able to make that first preseason game. Marshall remains out
Brandon Marshall (leg/hip surgery) missed another day of practice in camp Tuesday, according to the Denver Post.
Our View: The Broncos did not speculate when Marshall may return to the practice field. He is listed as a second-string receiver on Denver's latest depth chart, and is missing valuable time to gel with new quarterback Kyle Orton and head coach Josh McDaniels' offense.
Broncos | Marshall to miss preseason game Friday
Frank Schwab, of the Colorado Springs Gazette, reports Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels said WR Brandon Marshall will not play in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 14, because Marshall has to attend a trial in Atlanta on a misdemeanor battery charge he is facing.

NFL: New Role for Royal in Denver
According to the Denver Post, Eddie Royal is listed as a starting wide receiver on the Broncos' camp depth chart, but isn't on the three-deep at punt or kick returner. The Skinny: Don’t look now, but young Mr. Royal may soon become Denver’s number-one receiver considering Brandon Marshall’s recent hip injury and possible suspension looming over his head. What’s more, Marshall’s unhappy with the fact that he hasn’t been offered a lucrative contract extension as he approaches his walk...
Marshall second-string in Denver?
News: It might be a motivational ploy, or it might be a sign that he's just not quite ready for the start of the season, but WR Brandon Marshall is second on the team's initial depth chart according to the Denver Post. This is the first two significant pieces of news regarding Marshall as the Post also noted that his scheduled one-day trial on a misdemeanor battery charge is on Thursday. The incident occurred March 4, 2008, and alleges Marshall struck his former girlfriend. That incident caused Marshall to serve a one-game suspension last season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, but league spokesman Greg Aiello has confirmed the wide receiver was told that a negative result from that charge could potentially lead to further discipline. Marshall should be able to play in Friday's preseason game at San Francisco, but he's also dealing with a leg injury. Marshall still hasn't returned to practice since limping off Aug. 2 with what appeared to be a hamstring injury related to his surgically repaired hip. [...]

Marshall demoted on depth chart
The Denver Post is reporting that the Broncos have released their first depth chart of the season, and that star wide receiver Brandon Marshall is listed on the second team. Marshall is listed behind fellow wideouts Eddie Royal, Brandon Stokley, and Jabar Gaffney.
Our View: This could be a statement by the Broncos that Marshall needs to start practicing and stop whining, or it could just be because Marshall has been hurt and hasn't participated much. Either way, Marshall needs to get on the field if he is going to develop a rapport with new quarterback Kyle Orton.

News: Broncos WR Brandon Marshall has missed a week of workouts with a hamstring injury, but head coach Josh McDaniels said he's not worried about his star receiver not being ready for the season opener. Marshall misses practice

Broncos | Marshall misses practice Sunday
Lindsay Jones, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall (hip) missed the team’s practice Sunday, Aug. 9.
Broncos | Royal learning every receiver spot
Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports since Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels arrived from New England, many have taken the assumption Broncos WR Eddie Royal will play the role of Wes Welker, and WR Brandon Marshall will play the role of Randy Moss in the Denver system. The fit, according to Klis, is not that snug. While Royal has every bit of Welker's quickness, he also has more deep-ball speed than Marshall does. Royal says he cannot put a label on it, as he has seen a lot of different receivers run the routes he is going to be running for Denver. "I'm learning every receiver position right now," Royal said.
Broncos | B. Marshall remains sidelined
The Denver Post reports Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall (hamstring, hip) did not practice Saturday, Aug. 8.
Marshall sits out
Brandon Marshall sat out Friday's practice, according to Lindsay Jones' (of the Denver Post) twitter page. He is nursing a leg injury believed to be related to his offseason hip surgery.
Our View: Marshall is an elite receiver and will not be pushed for the No. 1 role in Denver, but is missing important practice time to gel with new quarterback Kyle Orton. He needs some work to get familiar with new head coach Josh McDaniels' offense as well.
Broncos | Marshall not practicing Friday
The Denver Post reports Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall (hip) is not participating on practice Friday, Aug. 7.
Stokley unlikely to pass Gaffney
The Denver Post is reporting that Broncos' receiver Brandon Stokley is unlikely to pass Jabar Gaffney on the team's depth chart this season. Stokley looks to be fourth on the chart behind Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, and Gaffney.
Our View: If Stokley is fourth on the depth chart, that would bury any fantasy relevance he could have this season. Even if Stokley moves to the third slot, he won't be a great fantasy receiver candidate.
Royal to have bigger impact in 2009
The Associated Press reports that the Broncos are grooming second year receiver Eddie Royal to be their "offensive centerpiece" this season. The Broncos plan on moving him all over the field.
Our View: Last season Royal set team rookie records with 91 catches, 980 yards and five scores. It's scary to think that he could build on those numbers this season. Second to Brandon Marshall last season, it looks like Royal will be top dog in 2009.
Josh McDaniels is a Joker; Bill Parcells is, Too
Josh McDaniels and Bill Parcells: “I don’t really have a Twitter policy. I don’t know what it means; I don’t know what it is. I don’t know MyFace, Spacebook, Facebook stuff. I don’t know what that is either.” It does sadden us a bit that mouthy Brandon Marshall will not be tweeting. Last night, we

The Denver Post reports that it is becoming more and more unlikely that oft-maligned wider receiver Brandon Marshall will miss the Broncos first preseason game.
Our View: Marshall has already missed the past six training camp workouts with a "leg" injury that is thought to be related to his offseason hip surgery. The opener is August 14th in San Francisco. Stay tuned as Marshall is sure to provided additional drama.

Hamstring, not hip, Marshall's issue
News: Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall missed the last hour of practice Sunday after pulling up with an apparent hamstring injury while running a deep sideline route. He sat out the late afternoon session as well. Marshall hobbled to the sideline mid-morning, tossed his helmet and dropped to the grass. Ravens have no interest in Marshall
The Baltimore Sun is reporting that the Ravens no longer have interest in trading for disgruntled Broncos' receiver Brandon Marshall. One Ravens' source was quoted as saying "Our interest in Brandon Marshall is between slim and none, and slim just walked out on the field," referring to the newly unretired Derek Mason.
Our View: It makes sense that the Ravens wouldn't be interested now that Mason is back with the team, and it was probably a long shot that they would pursue Marshall anyway. It is starting to look like Marshall will be a Bronco this season, so he better mend some fences with the new coaching staff and new quarterback Kyle Orton if he is going to stay on par as a top-flight wide receiver option in this league.

No Timetable Set For His Return

FF Today's Take: You could just feel this coming with Marshall. His off-season has been one giant distraction and now training camp has gotten off to a rocky start with an apparent hamstring injury. We'll see how much practice he misses but this is just another reason to downgrade Marshall on your cheatsheet.

Marshall limps off field favoring hip
Brandon Marshall limped off Denver's practice field on Sunday morning while favoring his surgically-repaired hip, according to the Denver Post.
Our View: The hip surgery that Marshall underwent normally takes six months to a full year for complete recovery, and Marshall had the surgery performed on March 31, meaning even an optimistic return to full strength wouldn't be until the end of September. Marshall had looked good and healthy prior to today, so just be sure to be up to date on his health status before you consider drafting him.

Status: Probable. Will play
Brandon Marshall got into a "shouting-and-shoving" match with Knowshon Moreno after the rookie's goal-line fumble in the second quarter Sunday. Marshall got in Moreno's face and started berating him, at which point Moreno gave him a shove in the chest. Moreno had to be restrained from going after Marshall at one point, and Marshall later admitted that he may have "handled it wrong." Moreno's gaffe was certainly a momentum killer, though it could have easily been ruled a touchdown as opposed to a fumble.
