Rodgers lived up to even the most optimistic of expectations

News: Aaron Rodgers passed his first test as the Green Bay Packers' new quarterback, which came in the wake of Brett Favre's offseason unretirement saga, throwing for 178 yards and a touchdown and scoring on a game-clinching sneak in a 24-19 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night. "I'm happy we won, and that he played well," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "That's what's important. I don't really get caught up in all the other things. And it's important for him not to, too." Rodgers was 18 of 22 for 178 yards and one touchdown -- a 1-yard pass to Korey Hall. He also scored on a QB-sneak in the fourth quarter. After scoring on the sneak, Rodgers emphatically spiked the ball and jumped into the stands for a "Lambeau Leap" as Green Bay took a 24-12 lead with 6:03 remaining. "I've been dreaming about that for four years, to be honest," Rodgers said. [...]

There really was no scenario that would have allowed Aaron Rodgers
News: There really was no scenario that would have allowed Aaron Rodgers to quietly ease into his new job as the Green Bay Packers' starting quarterback. But it's hard to imagine a debut being much more intense than Monday night's season opener against Minnesota at Lambeau Field. For starters, most of the league has the night off and will be watching Rodgers' first start that counts. That presumably includes Brett Favre, who was sent packing in a trade to the New York Jets after his second thoughts on retirement rattled Rodgers and distracted the team during training camp. And while the Packers' division rivalry with the Vikings didn't really need any extra spice, that's what happened after the Packers accused the Vikings of tampering with the then-retired Favre in the offseason. The charge was dismissed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, but won't soon be forgotten by either organization. [...]
Packers coach Mike McCarthy has said that he will not be going
Packers coach Mike McCarthy has said that he will not be going after a veteran quarterback to back up starter Aaron Rodgers, and Matt Flynn and Brian Brohm are the guys, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "IÂ’m not thinking about it. IÂ’m thinking about getting these two young men ready to play," McCarthy said.It is quite a leap of faith to give two rookies that responsibility, especially since the top backup at the position was a seventh-round pick just months ago.
Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams will be talking a lot
Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams will be talking a lot of trash while trying to get into the head of Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers' head on Monday, according to ESPN.com. "We'll find out how much he can take," said Williams.Williams had just two sacks a year ago, but his ability to eat up blockers is an integral to the Vikings stout defensive line.
Rookie quarterback and seventh-round pick Matt Flynn has officially
Rookie quarterback and seventh-round pick Matt Flynn has officially been named the backup to starter Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. He beat out fellow rookie and second-round pick Brian Brohm for the job.Packers coach Mike McCarthy liked the way Flynn picked up the offense and performed in the preseason games. This means very little right now though, as the two will likely battle it out on a week-by-week basis.
Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn will be the Packers backup quarterbacks
Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn will be the Packers backup quarterbacks going into Week 1, as the team has made no moves to acquire a veteran to put in place behind Aaron Rodgers, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.Brohm and Flynn are rookies, so if something happens to Rodgers and they need to rely on one of them, it could be a difficult season for the Packers.
