All indications from the land of the frozen tundra suggest 7th-round
All indications from the land of the frozen tundra suggest 7th-round draft pick Matt Flynn has won the honors to serve as the primary backup quarterback in Green Bay behind Aaron Rodgers, and he's done so well that he the team is unlikely to seek the addition of a veteran counterpart, according to the Sporting News.Flynn has performed well and continues to improve as a leader and, more importantly, a man that fits the system. Second-round pick Brian Brohm seems certain to keep a roster spot as well, but he has struggled to avoid mistakes coach Mika McCarthy would rather avoid, thus the cannon arm out of Louisville will sit as the third option until he can get his mind right for the game.
The Associated Press reports free-agent QB Daunte Culpepper
The Associated Press reports free-agent QB Daunte Culpepper (Raiders) said Thursday, Aug. 28, he would be interested in joining the Green Bay Packers as a backup to QB Aaron Rodgers. "I have not heard from the Packers since before the draft," Culpepper said in an e-mail response. "My ears are definitely opened to listen if they need a proven backup for Aaron." Culpepper remains committed to joining a team this season but has not received the response he is looking for. "I am talking," Culpepper said. "I am just not convinced that the teams are listening."

Packers running back Ryan Grant suited up and started for the team on Thursday, but played just one play as Aaron Rodgers completed a long touchdown pass to Greg Jennings, according to Scout.com.Grant did not get one carry for the team in the preseason after hurting his hamstring. After coach Mike McCarthy said he needed to get reps, Grant got none, and it's fair to wonder if he'll be rusty for the opener.

The Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers WR Donald Driver
The Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers WR Donald Driver has dropped two passes in the team's preseason games so far. He is adjusting to new starting QB Aaron Rodgers after spending 10 years playing catch with QB Brett Favre. Driver said the team's receivers need to make plays for Rodgers, who will be under scrutiny all year. Receivers coach Jimmy Robinson isn't concerned based off Driver's history. "With a guy like Donald who catches the ball so consistently, has such good hands, it's not a concern," Robinson said.
The smooth travels for Aaron Rodgers came to an end on Saturday
The smooth travels for Aaron Rodgers came to an end on Saturday night, completing nine of 16 passes for 58 yards and sacked four times by San Francisco in a devastating 34-6 loss, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. San FranciscoÂ’s complex defense, which regularly shifts from a 3-4 front to a 4-3 front in an attempt to create indecision in blocking assignments, got the upper hand on Rodgers. According to offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, Rodgers audibled out of a number of running plays. Often he found nothing downfield. His hesitation made him look like a backup quarterback who hadnÂ’t played in a long time and often he read the pass rush incorrectly, thinking he had time to pump and reload when he didnÂ’t.Rodgers didnÂ’t have very good protection, his receivers were dropping balls and running poor routes and there was no running game to speak of to slow down the 49ersÂ’ pass rush. It serves as a reminder that bumps will come in this road, and while Rodgers has impressed thus far, there will be times when he does not. Temper expectations and you won't get stung.

Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was indecisive in the pocket Saturday, Aug. 16. He was sacked four times in the game and knocked down three others. Rodgers wasn't helped by two key drops during the game, but he also took some risks and hesitated a lot.

Matt Flynn is pushing Brian Brohm for the primary backup job
Matt Flynn is pushing Brian Brohm for the primary backup job at quarterback behind starter Aaron Rodgers, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Brohn currently leads the competition but coach Mike McCarthy said, "I think MattÂ’s definitely closing the gap, thereÂ’s no doubt about it. I think heÂ’s really been pushing Brian here probably about the last eight to 10 days. I think Matt is getting more comfortable."Flynn was a seventh-round draft pick out of LSU. Flynn is intelligent and makes good decisions, but lacks a strong arm and a quick release, and has far less upside than Brohm at the NFL level.
Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams really believes his team
Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams really believes his team will beat Green Bay in the season opener, and he wants to make sure Packers running back Ryan Grant does not have a good game, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. First though, he started talking about Aaron Rodgers by saying, "when we go down there it'll be the kid's first start and his first damn loss." He then expounded on his plans for Grant and his 100 yard game versus them last season. "That ain't going to happen Monday night [in the opener]. Trust me it ain't going to happen."There's nothing wrong with some good old-fashioned trash talking. And Williams may have a point. While the Packers were going through all of their Brett Favre drama, the Vikings were simply training and working. Stay tuned for any response by Grant or the Packers.

GM Ted Thompson likes rookie Brian Brohm, and is content with him as the No. 2 quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. But Thompson will still leave the door open for a veteran signal-caller. The current unemployed list includes Daunte Culpepper, Tim Rattay, Tim Hasselbeck, Jamie Martin, Kelly Holcomb, David Greene, and Craig Nall. Thompson added that a lot can happen between now and the regular season. This is encouraging news for Brohm, but the rookie won't hold any fantasy value unless Rodgers gets hurt or gravely struggles as the starter.

The Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers made his first start as the new starting quarterback in Green Bay Monday, Aug. 11. Rodgers hit 9 of 15 passes for 117 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The interception wasn't his fault, as it deflected off one of his receivers into the hands of a defender. The Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers WR James Jones
The Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers WR James Jones led the team in receiving during their first preseason game Monday, Aug. 11, against the Cincinnati Bengals. Jones, who had three receptions for 44 yards, caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from QB Aaron Rodgers. During the play, Jones was jarred by Bengals S Marvin White, knocking his helmet off before he bounced away and wound up in the end zone. "I was kind of rocked for a minute, too," Jones said. "I was just hoping I was going the right direction."
Aaron Rodgers shrugged off a shaky beginning as Brett Favre's
News: Aaron Rodgers shrugged off a shaky beginning as Brett Favre's replacement. In his first start for the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers delivered a pair of scoring drives and a handful of highlights in a 20-17 preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. Despite spending most of the past three seasons holding a clipboard, Rodgers didn't show many signs of nerves in his first step out of Favre's shadow. The Bengals tagged Rodgers for an early interception off of a deflected pass, but he recovered to complete 9 of 15 throws for 117 yards and a touchdown. Rodgers could have had a second scoring strike, but couldn't connect on a deep ball to wide open receiver James Jones on the Packers' third drive. On the next play, Rodgers threw a crisp 30-yard pass to Ruvell Martin on third-and-2 that helped set up a 37-yard field goal by Mason Crosby. [...]

Here in fantasy sports land, we care far more about the numbers
Here in fantasy sports land, we care far more about the numbers players produced than the numbers on their jerseys. But that is certainly not true in the case of Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is taking a lot of heat from fans, including being cursed at by children, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. I'm driving up to the (parking lot) gate and punching in my punch code and somebody says ‘F.U.' to me. That kind of bothers me. Or when a little kid is yelling swear words at me. That kind of gets to me. The boos, they expect a high level of play and they miss Brett Favre. I understand that. But the ‘F.U.' and the little kids saying swear words to me, I don't understand that," Rodgers said.Well that's classy. Rodgers doesn't deserve the heat he is taking, as he had nothing to do with the Brett Favre - Green Bay breakup. He was simply drafted by the team. That said, he is a good backup in fantasy terms and has the potential to be more.

Aaron Rodgers was sharp in Friday's morning practice, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. He was 10-of-15 with two touchdowns, and was 6-of-8 on his two-minute drive. Greg Jennings made an incredible one-handed grab for a touchdown to end practice. Rodgers had scrambled on the play, and then zipped a ball in late and a little high to Jennings, but he made it work.Rodgers ranks as a solid No. 2 fantasy quarterback, with upside to be a favorable starter.

ESPN reports that Packers QB Brett Favre feels like he and the
News: ESPN reports that Packers QB Brett Favre feels like he and the club are at a "stalemate" in the ongoing conversations regarding his future. Favre said that he and head coach Mike McCarthy agree that Favre would be a distraction at camp, and the future Hall of Famer added that the club did not agree to an open QB competition in camp between him and Aaron Rodgers. Favre requested his release or a trade to an NFC North team (presumably the Vikings), and the Packers were not willing to oblige. "I don't have a problem with competing ... but Aaron should be the starter right now because he's been out here all this time," Favre told the network. "This is more than about an open competition and I can do that, absolutely, but this is going to be mass confusion and that's not good for this team. I'll practice my butt off, if it comes to that, and I think we all know what the end result will be, but this probably isn't going to work. ... The problem is that there's been a lot of damage done and I can't forget it. Stuff has been said, stories planted, that just aren't true. Can I get over all that? I doubt it." [...]
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports it appears less and less
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports it appears less and less likely that Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre will be back on the playing field for the team. Favre and the Packers are expected to meet again Tuesday, Aug. 5, in order to try and reach a resolution. However, Favre insisted during his previous meeting with the team Monday, Aug. 4, that he did not want his presence to destroy the team's chemistry. In fact, Favre was adamant that he wanted to do what was in the best interest of the locker room and admitted this distraction was not what his teammates needed. Another agreement from the meeting was that there would not be an open quarterback competition as even Favre felt this would not be in the best interests of the locker room. Thus, QB Aaron Rodgers is the team's starting quarterback. Favre continues to insist his desire to play within the NFC North. The Packers, however, are still hoping to find another option. Favre now must decide if he wants to play football for one of the two teams that have shown interest - the New York Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - or continue to push for a solution that does not appear to be viable to the Packers.
