Ron Artest finally got to experience what it's like to be on the same team when Kobe Bryant finishes off a win. Bryant scored 31 points including the go-ahead jumper in overtime as the Los Angeles Lakers got tested in their first road game of the season, beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-98 on Tuesday night.
Brandon Roy couldn't get his shot going for a second straight night. So, he used what energy he had left for one final charge. Tuckered out after a 42-point performance the previous night, Roy scored 16 and got aggressive late to finish out the Portland Trail Blazers' 83-74 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night.
Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder completed step one in avoiding another horrendous start to the season. Durant had 25 points and 11 rebounds, Jeff Green added 24 points and the Thunder led from start to finish in a 102-89 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams.
Defensive stopper Thabo Sefolosha signed a four-year contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, allowing him to avoid free agency at the end of the season. The Oklahoma City Thunder have exercised fourth-year contract options on Kevin Durant and Jeff Green. Thunder general manager Sam Presti said on Friday that the team also exercised third-year options on guard Russell Westbrook and forward D.J. White. The franchise drafted Durant and Green in 2007 and Westbrook and White in 2008.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have waived forward Mike Harris, trimming the roster to 15 players before the start of the regular season. Thunder General Manager Sam Presti announced the move Friday. Harris played in two preseason games for Oklahoma City, averaging 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds. With the preseason winding down, the Sacramento Kings got just the kind of spark they had been missing from Andres Nocioni. They're just learning what rookie Omri Casspi can do. Nocioni scored 19 points and Casspi added 16 as the Kings beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 104-89 on Thursday night despite playing without leading scorer Kevin Martin.
Veteran forward Michael Ruffin has been waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Thunder General Manager Sam Presti announced the move Thursday, hours before Oklahoma City's final preseason game against the Sacramento Kings. Ruffin is a former Tulsa standout who appeared in only one preseason game for the Thunder.
