The Grizzlies are in talks to bring Kareem Abdul-Jabbar aboard as a tutor for their young big men, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

Marc Gasol had 10 points, seven rebounds and one block in Friday's loss to the Lakers. He came in boasting averages of 17.6 points, 12.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks, but those numbers will be dropping after this one. He's still a solid No. 1 fantasy center, but it's hard to imagine him keeping up such a torrid pace all season.

News: Memphis center Marc Gasol continues to start the 2009-10 season on a tear. He had 16 points, 16 rebounds and three assists Monday at Sacramento and now has three double-doubles in his first four games.

Analysis: Gasol continues to thrive despite the addition of Zach Randolph. Keep Gasol active in all leagues since he's starting to play like a No. 1 Fantasy center

Steven Hunter returned to action on Wednesday October 28.

News: The Nuggets swapped Steven Hunter, a protected 2010 first-round pick and cash to the Grizzlies in exchange for a future conditional second rounder, Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said Friday. The trade could give Memphis three first-round selections in the 2010 draft. The Grizzlies already are owed the Lakers' 2010 pick to complete the February 2008 trade that sent Pau Gasol to Los Angeles. Memphis drafted No. 2 overall in June when the Grizzlies had three picks within the first 32 spots. "We are a team which emphasizes the draft, and next year's draft is projected to be strong," Wallace said in a statement. "This draft pick from Denver provides us with increased options for the future." With Hunter, the Grizzlies have an NBA-high four players who are 7-foot or taller. Memphis drafted 7-3 Hasheem Thabeet with the No. 2 pick overall in June, adding him to 7-1 Marc Gasol and Hamed Haddadi.

Analysis: The 7-foot Hunter is a seven-year pro out of DePaul, who sat out last season after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Nov. 14, 2008. He last played in the 2007-08 season with Denver, appearing in 19 games and averaging 6.3 minutes and 2.3 points. The 15th pick in the 2001 draft by Orlando, Hunter is averaging 4.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and a block with 15.4 minutes in his career. He has played in 379 games with 130 starts with the Nuggets, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Orlando. Hunter's best season was with Philadelphia in 2006-07 when he averaged 6.5 points and 4.8 rebounds starting 41 games. The Sixers traded him to Denver in September 2007. Zach Randolph had 19 points, 12 boards and five assists in Saturday's loss. He, of course, didn't have a steal or block, but has been a model citizen since landing in Memphis. He's not making waves and and appears to be competing every night, which is all the Grizzlies can ask for. He still doesn't do enough in fantasyland to be a stud, but his constant double-doubles are certainly valuable to his owners.

Randolph notched his third straight double-double in Friday's loss to the Lakers, finishing with 21 points and 15 rebounds on 9-of-17 shooting.

Spin: His field-goal percentage and block average (0.7) are bound for a decrease, but other than that, it's entirely feasible that he will maintain his current averages for the rest of the season given his propensity to dominate possession.Sat, Nov 7

Zach Randolph scored 30 points and grabbed 16 rebounds before fouling out of Tuesday's game in overtime. As usual, Z-Bo didn't add much else (one assist, zero steals, one block), but he made 12-of-21 FGs and 6-of-7 FTs and is doing everything Memphis has asked of him so far this season.

News: Memphis rookie PF DeMarre Carroll, drafted No. 27 overall out of Missouri, played well over 32 minutes in the Grizzlies' win over Toronto on Friday. Carroll shot 3 of 8 from the field for 12 points and added seven rebounds and three steals.

Analysis: Carroll only managed two points in his NBA debut on 0 for 5 shooting with four boards over 20 minutes. This was definitely a big improvement. Carroll could become a viable Fantasy option down the road with continued playing time. He is officially on sleeper watch

Carroll scored 12 points (3-8 FG, 6-10 FT) to go with seven rebounds and three steals in the Grizzlies' win over the Raptors Friday.

Spin: He got to play 32 minutes with the team's bench pretty thin to start the season. He should get a significant chunk of playing time in a reserve role, but the points totals may not be consistent.Sat, Oct 31

DeMarre Carroll came off the bench and had 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals in Friday's win over the Raptors. The forward isn't well known but is now the backup to Zach Randolph. If you're in a very deep league, keep an eye on him.

Young may not be too involved in the Grizzlies' rotation to start this season, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

Sam Young returned to action on Wednesday October 28.

Young (ankle) was held scoreless in his NBA debut Wednesday against the Pistons. He did register three rebounds and a steal.

Spin: Young's ankle injury was expected to keep him out, but the rookie showed some toughness by lacing it up on Wednesday. His nine minutes of playing time indicate he may have been slightly limited, although he's not projected to see significantly more floor time than that even when fully healthy.Wed, Oct 28

Mike Conley hit 6-of-13 shots and a 3-pointer to finish with 16 points, six assists, a steal and a block in Saturday's loss. Allen Iverson bolted from the team on Saturday and may not be back, clearing the way for Conley to start and produce at the point guard position. If he was cut in your league and is still available, go get him.

Mike Conley's job as the Memphis point guard got a little safer on Saturday when it was revealed that Allen Iverson has left the team for personal reasons. Everyone who predicted gloom and doom when Iverson signed with Memphis (which was everyone except owner Michael Heisley) could see disaster coming, but no one probably thought it would implode just two weeks into the season. If Conley was dropped in your league, think about grabbing him if you need a point guard. Iverson's presence was the main reason Conley fell out of fantasy favor.Source: Memphis Commercial Appeal

Mike Conley started and played 27 minutes, but had just seven points and four assists Friday. Allen Iverson came off the bench for eight points and three dimes in 21 minutes, and could be on the verge of rendering Conley useless in fantasy leagues. Stay tuned.Related: Allen Iverson

Coach Lionel Hollins has pledged to use a three-guard rotation this season, which should squeeze Williams from most of his playing time, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

Spin: Williams had served as the team's backup point guard this preseason while Allen Iverson sat with an oblique injury, but Williams has played a total of 4:11 since AI's return. Our View: Getting rid of Williams trimmed the Spurs roster to 15, the regular season maximum. He hadn't played a minute in the team's last two preseason games and didn't have a guaranteed practice, so this move was virtually telegraphed

News: The Grizzlies announced they agreed to let guard Marko Jaric not join them for training camp and have given his agent permission to talk with other teams.

Analysis: Jaric was not expected to see much playing time this season with Memphis, but we don't see him getting much playing time elsewhere either. Fantasy owners should not be looking to draft Jaric in Fantasy leagues

The Grizzlies have given Jaric and his agent permission to seek a trade after the two sides mutually agreed that Jaric would not attend training camp, ESPN.com reports.

Spin: The chances of finding a suitor for Jaric (and the two years and nearly $15 million left on his contract) are slim to none. The most likely resolution is a contract buyout.Tue, Sep 29
