News: ESPN is reporting that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey says that Yao Ming may be able to play during the 2009-10 season. "Yao Ming is progressing well. I don't think that [a career-ending scenario] is something that will happen, based on what I'm hearing from the doctors," Morey said. "They do know that the bone will heal and he'll get back on it. And they have not actually ruled out [his return] this season. I think that's less likely than likely, but they haven't ruled it out." [...]

Status: Sidelined. Out for 2009-10 season
The Houston Rockets have extended the contract of GM Daryl Morey through the 2012-2013 season. The Rockets have retooled and remained competetive under Morey's direction but may face serious challenge this season with Yao Ming out and Tracy McGrady coming off of microfracture surgery.
