Head coach Michael Curry partially blames himself for playing Wallace too much before Antonio McDyess re-signed with the team in December. "For a long stretch, we played him heavy minutes and I thought he played well," Curry said. "We chased a few wins at the expense of wearing him down a little bit, and that's on me. Sometimes that happens when you're shorthanded and trying to get some wins. Now, with the way the rotation is, he'll fall back into less minutes and he can be more effective that way." It didn't make any difference Friday, as he scored just four points against Dallas, even though he wasn't assigned to guard Dallas' top threat, Dirk Nowitzki. Curry will try to give Wallace another break on Sunday when the Pistons play Houston. Kwame Brown and Antonio McDyess will guard the Rockets' 7-foot-6 center most of the game. That is, if Yao plays. The big man suffered a bruised knee Friday night against Indiana. "He can't, by himself, carry the paint," Curry said. "A lot of times when we were small, he'd have to protect the paint and get back to the other big. He can't do that anymore over long stretches of the game. "Having that other big on the floor really helps. If it's Kwame, Kwame can plug up and take up a lot of space and Rasheed can get in there and rebound. If Amir (Johnson) or Max (Jason Maxiell) is out there with him, their youth and athleticism can get to places Rasheed can no longer get to on a consistent basis." [...]

Wallace suffered a foot injury in the first half of Wednesday's 83-75 win over New Jersey and did not return. Coach Michael Curry said he wasn't sure of Wallace's status for Friday's game against Sacramento. Wallace is averaging 12.3 points and 7.4 rebounds this season.
