Pacers forward Mike Dunleavy will likely miss the rest of the season due to his ailing knee, reports the Indianapolis Star.The knee has bothered Dunleavy for some time, and he has only participated in 18 games on the season. He contributed more than 15 points per game, so this is a blow to the Pacers and his fantasy owners.

The Pacers conceded on Monday that it's unlikely Mike Dunleavy (knee) will return this season. 'I think he's done for the year,' said coach Jim O'Brien. The Pacers have an uphill battle to make the playoffs and it doesn't make sense to risk further damage this season, only to jeopardize next season. It sounds safe to cut your losses and drop him.

News: The Indianapolis Star reports that the Pacers believe forward Mike Dunleavy won't return this season. Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said before Monday's game against the New York Knicks that he doesn't "think there's much question that (Dunleavy's) done for the year. That's where I think he is. Whether he thinks he is or somebody else does, I'm proceeding as if he's going to be done for the rest of the year." O'Brien's comments aren't surprising considering Dunleavy hasn't played in more than two weeks, he has played in only 18 games this season and the Pacers have a substantial hurdle to make the playoffs. "He's looking at all his options," O'Brien said. "It's disappointing for him, and also something that's difficult for the franchise to deal with because he makes a lot of money, deservedly so, but you're operating on a situation where if you don't have somebody like that, that you're operating on less of a budget. That's a difficult situation." [...]

Status: Sidelined. Targeting November return
Contrary to a report that he would make his season debut on Wednesday, the Pacers have now backpedaled saying that there is no timetable for his return. Dunleavy says he wants to be in the best possible game shape before playing, but one can't help but think it has to do with a setback, or because the suddenly crowded rotation needs room to breathe. We would still pick him up if he's on the waiver wire, but with just a bit more caution.
