Orlando is evaluating All-Star point guard Jameer Nelson for a possible return to the Magic lineup for the NBA finals that begin Thursday night in Los Angeles. Magic spokesman Joel Glass said on Sunday that Nelson's rehabilitation from a shoulder injury is ahead of schedule but that his status remains uncertain.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Magic are so encouraged by the progress made by Jameer Nelson in his rehab that they plan on evaluating the possibility that he could play in the NBA Finals. It was reported that Nelson, an All-Star this season, would miss the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery in February.
Our View: It seems unlikely that Nelson would be able to contribute much even if he is cleared to play, but anything the Magic could get out of him would be a boost. It may still be a long shot that he plays in this series, but the possibility is out there. We will keep you updated on his status.

Status: Sidelined. Targeting late-December return
Jameer Nelson is supposed to miss anywhere from four to six weeks after having knee surgery, but his teammates are saying the he might only miss three weeks. If they're correct, it's possbible that Nelson could play as soon as Dec. 2 against the Knicks, Our feeling is that is a very optimistic outlook on Nelson's return, and that mid- to late-December sounds more likely.
