Dwight Howard said on Tuesday that he hopes Orlando re-signs free agent Hedo Turkoglu. "I really would love for Hedo to stay," Howard said. "I believe that we can win a championship. [...]
Dwight Howard’s Movie
Dwight Howard is going to be in a movie. The movie is called “Switch.” The premise is ‘a “white, unathletic, unpopular high-school freshman who swaps basketball skills with Howard.” Chris Tucker, Kanye West and Snoop Dogg are expected to make appearances in the flick, which starts shooting in August.’ How will they teach the awkward
Magic's surprising run comes to end
Dwight Howard plopped down on the bench, pulled his jersey into his mouth and stared at Kobe Bryant and the rest of the Los Angeles Lakers celebrating on his homecourt. He couldn't move. The best season in Orlando Magic history came to a close Sunday night, losing 99-86 to the Lakers in Game 5 of the NBA finals.
Howard's double-double not enough for Magic
Dwight Howard posted another double-double on Sunday in the Magic's 99-86 loss to the Lakers. Howard had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and he also blocked three shots.
Our View: Howard only had nine field goal attempts, and the Magic just didn't seem interested in working through him. Howard needs to expand is offensive game if he is going to be the elite player many think he will be.

Howard seeks answer to free-throw woes
Dwight Howard has his bags packed. Showing off an it's-not-over-yet smile and a confident attitude, the Orlando Magic center said Saturday that the NBA finals will be headed back to Los Angeles. The Magic are down 3-1 to the Lakers but want to "make history," starting with Game 5 on Sunday in their final home game of the best season in franchise history.
Howard's 8 missed free throws hurt Magic
Dwight Howard has gone to great lengths trying to solve his free throw woes. Howard spends nights at the Orlando Magic's practice facility, inviting friends to blast music and distract him during shots. He takes about 300 free throws a day, often not stopping until he makes 20 in a row, and he's usually the last player to leave the court.
Howard's 8 missed free throws hurt Magic
The "Superman" capes were left crinkled up under the seats after a record-setting performance by Dwight Howard couldn't prevent more Magic misery in the NBA finals. Howard set a finals record with nine blocked shots, had 16 points and 21 rebounds, but the All-Star center missed eight free throws -- including a pair that could have sealed a win in regulation -- and the Magic lost...
Dwight Howard had 16 points, 21 rebounds, nine blocks and seven
Dwight Howard had 16 points, 21 rebounds, nine blocks and seven turnovers in Thursday's Game 4 overtime loss to the Lakers. The nine blocks marked an NBA Finals' record and marked the first time in the history of the NBA playoffs a player posted more than 20 rebounds and nine blocks in a game, but he went just 6-of-14 from the free throw line, while Hedo Turkoglu hit just 8-of-13 freebies. Howard solid in losing effort
Dwight Howard was solid in Thursday's 99-91 loss to the Lakers in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, as he generated 16 points and a game-high 21 rebounds. He also had two assists and nine blocks.
Our View: Howard had a great defensive outing, but was not quite good enough for the Magic to nail down a win at home. They are now on the brink of elimination as they trail 3-1 in the series.
Shortly after the season ends, the Magic intend to offer contract
Shortly after the season ends, the Magic intend to offer contract extensions to coach Stan Van Gundy and GM Otis Smith. Van Gundy and Smith both have two years remaining on their current contracts, but the Magic "want to make sure they will be here to continue what they've started," according to one unnamed team executive. [...]
Bryant, Lakers look to rebound in Game 4
Kobe Bryant now understands how dangerous the Orlando Magic can be at home when they're dialed in and raining down jumpers and 3-pointers from every angle. He knows what can happen when Dwight Howard recognizes the double team and kicks the ball out to the Magic's dead-eyed sharpshooters. Bryant has seen the Magic, who shot an NBA finals-record 62 percent from the field -- 75 percent in the...
Abdul-Jabaar calls Howard predictable
ESPN.com reports that Kareem Abdul-Jabaar feels that Dwight Howard is predictable. KAJ points out that Howard does not have a go-to move and that he is ineffective when not right underneath the basket.
Our View: Howard has been limited by the Lakers to just 11 field goals through three games in the Finals. They have the luxury of putting taller players on him, but they are also double-teaming him, fouling early, and cutting down his passing lanes. Howard has shown a lot of improvement at the free throw line this postseason and we expect his offensive repertoire to improve significantly in time.
Alston helps Magic 'skip' PG controversy
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar doesn't see much future for Dwight Howard in all those rim-rocking dunks and power moves from the Orlando Magic center. The NBA's career scoring leader would like to see Howard not rely so much on his size and athleticism and make himself a player his team can turn to when it counts.
The Magic beat the Lakers 108-104 in Game 3 in Orlando on Tuesday
The Magic beat the Lakers 108-104 in Game 3 in Orlando on Tuesday behind 21 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks from Dwight Howard. The Lakers missed several 3-point shots that would have pulled them to within a point in the final 20 seconds, but the game ended unceremoniously with a delay from an early confetti drop, followed by a pair of free throws from Rashard Lewis. [...]
Howard leads Magic in Game 3 win
Dwight Howard led the Magic in Tuesday's 107-104 win over the Lakers in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, as he generated 21 points, 14 boards, two assists, one steal and two blocks.
Our View: The elite center helped Orlando climb back into the series at 2-1, and the club recorded their first ever win in the NBA Finals. Howard has six straight double-doubles in the postseason.

Gasol dominates OT as Lakers win Game 2
The big man nobody was talking about came up huge for the Lakers. Pau Gasol dominated overtime with seven of his 24 points, helping Los Angeles defeat the Orlando Magic 101-96 Sunday night to take a 2-0 lead in the NBA finals. Most of the focus had been on the matchup between Gasol's teammate Andrew Bynum and Orlando star Dwight Howard.
Howard doubles up in Game Two loss
Dwight Howard grabbed 16 rebounds to compliment his 17 points on Sunday, but the Magic fell regardless. The Lakers won Game Two 101-96 and now have a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals.
Our View: Howard was everywhere on Sunday. In addition to his double-double he had four assists, four steals and four blocked shots. He was 5-of-10 from the field and 7-of-9 at the line. The only knock on his game was the seven turnovers he committed.
Howard, Hall of Famer Russell share time
Dwight Howard shared some time with Hall of Fame center Bill Russell before the Orlando Magic lost Game 1 of the NBA finals. Howard has long admired Russell, even though his career ended well before the 23-year-old big man became a star. One of the few books Howard said he's ever enjoyed reading is "Russell Rules." "It brought me a little bit closer to him just by reading that...
Nelson's return has Alston in tough spot
Hubie Brown first tried positioning two recorders and a knife on the table in front of him. When that didn't work, he grabbed a reporter's notebook and sketched his idea on paper. Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy has his own equipment and undoubtedly spent his Saturday doing what Brown was doing: Trying to draw up ways to make Dwight Howard more effective.
Howard, Magic not shaken by Game 1 loss
Dwight Howard hasn't been surprised by anything during his first trip to the NBA finals. It's all seemed so familiar to Orlando's center, like he's been here before. If it wasn't June, it would be like any other game. Sure, there's more media. There's "that big trophy everywhere you look." There's a stenographer sitting in on the press conferences.
Howard, Magic not shaken by Game 1 loss
Back in his Clark Kent days, when he was an 18-year-old rookie, Dwight Howard was welcomed to the league by Kobe Bryant. It wasn't with a fist bump or handshake. It wasn't friendly at all. In his first game against Howard, Bryant drove the lane and delivered a ferocious dunk that still haunts Orlando's center five years later.
Well, That Was Boring: Lakers 100, Magic 75
Signs of a blowout: Dwight Howard took just six shots. Rashard Lewis (2-for-10) had his worst-shooting game of the postseason. For the first time in the playoffs, Hedo Turkoglu had more turnovers (four) than assists (two).LeBron James had to be watching in disgust as the Magic missed three pointers in bulk (just 3-for-11 in the
Magic struggle offensively in Game 1
Rashard Lewis clanged jumpers, Dwight Howard was anything but Super. And once their two top threats couldn't get going, the Orlando Magic had nowhere to look for offense. The Magic shot just 29.9 percent from the field in their return to the NBA finals and were overmatched by the Los Angeles Lakers 100-75 in Game 1 on Thursday night.

Howard held in check in loss
Dwight Howard was held to only 12 points in Thursday's 100-75 loss at Los Angeles in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. He had a game-high 15 rebounds, to go along with two steals, two assists and two blocks. He only shot 1-for-6 from the floor.
Our View: The elite center performed well defensively, but was shut down on offense, which led to Orlando's loss. The team is now 5-6 in road games in the playoffs.

Van Gundy succeeds by following own, unique path
The Magic, it's been said, are not a team built for the playoffs, an assessment based on their lack of bangers and slashers and their heavy reliance on one man down low and four artistes on the perimeter. Orlando might continue to hear such criticism right up to the moment when Rashard Lewis tears off the gold-plated basketball atop the Larry O'Brien trophy cradled in Dwight Howard's arms and lets it fly from 23-9.
Howard, Bryant set for NBA title tilt
Sporting a body-hugging tank top, Dwight Howard bounded onto the press conference podium flashing his megawatt smile and muscles on muscles. Unsure where to sit, he looked at the high chair to his right, a perch he was told was reserved for Los Angeles coach Phil Jackson. Not there. So Howard slid into a seat occupied moments earlier by Lakers star Kobe Bryant, whose interview session was cold and...

Howard to have fun in first NBA finals
Leave all that cold-blooded seriousness to Kobe Bryant. Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard is going to have fun in his first NBA finals. "I'm always going to be that silly person," Howard said Wednesday before practice at Staples Center. "Basketball brings too much joy to me and everybody who watches me.
Shaq rooting for Kobe
Shaquille O'Neal tweeted that he wants Kobe Bryant to win his fourth ring. He says to "spread da word."
Our View: We wouldn't want to upset Shaq, so spread the word we will. However, this probably has less to do with Kobe than it does Dwight Howard. Shaq has disrespected Howard (and coach Stan Van Gundy) all season long, and he's been quoted as saying he doesn't want to discuss Howard until he gets some rings. Oh yeah, Shaq failed to land a ring with the Magic, which Howard could do in the coming weeks.
Better Magic Team: 1995 or 2009?
Chris Webber posed the question on Twitter this week, so we thought we’d extend the debate here. Here’s the roster of the 1995 squad (with stats) that was swept by the Rockets in the Finals. One blogger’s opinion: The matchups are split between forwards (09) and guards (95), leaving the Shaq vs. Dwight Howard matchup
Howard wants to finish career in Orlando
Dwight Howard told the Sun-Sentinel on Monday that he would love to stay in Orlando as long as the fans want him to be there. Howard still has four years left on his current contract with the Magic, and he would like to finish his career in Orlando.
Our View: This is the kind of thing you say now, while your team is getting ready to play for the NBA championship and everything is going good. He is still very young, but as a center he looks to be the future of their franchise. A few bad seasons down the road would probably have him singing a different tune, however.

Bryant again seeks title without Shaq
Kobe Bryant is staring down the prospect of sharing the court with Superman again. Only this time, it's Dwight Howard and not Shaquille O'Neal who's wearing the cape that Bryant wants to tug on. Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers will be trying to win their first NBA title without O'Neal when the finals open Thursday against Howard and the Orlando Magic.
No fine for James
LeBron James will not be fined for snubbing reporters after the Cavs were eliminated in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals by the Magic, according to ESPN. NBA Spokeman Tim Frank said, "We are not going to fine LeBron for that. We have not had any issues with him before at all."
Our View: James also did not shake hands with Orlando center Dwight Howard after the disappointing exit from the playoffs. The Cavs held the best record in the regular season at 66-16.
