News: The Lakers signed Andrew Bynum to a contract extension Thursday, removing the possibility the 21-year-old center would become an unrestricted free agent next summer. "Andrew has shown a vast array of skills for a player his size and if he continues to stay dedicated and work hard to improve, he has an excellent chance to develop into one of the top players in the NBA," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said in a statement. Update: Bynum signed a four-year, $58 million contract extension with the Lakers on Thursday.
Analysis: The fourth year of the extension is reportedly a team option worth $16 million. In 165 career games, the 21-year old has averaged 7 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest.

Bynum's fantasy value is decent right now, but he's owned in fewer than half of fantasy leagues. We'll see if he's worth a spot on your roster and his contract as the season progresses.

An MRI showed no rupture in Andrew Bynum's left Achilles' tendon and he will be re-evaluated in one week. This is good news for the Lakers, though Bynum still doesn't expect to play until April. He's unlikely to be re-evaluated until L.A. returns from their upcoming five-game roadtrip and by the time he's back it could be too late for fantasy owners.
