The Chicago Tribune's Mark Gonzales reports Chicago White Sox general manager Kenny Williams asked 2B Gordon Beckham for his approval to move to second base before the team made the trade for 3B Mark Teahen.

White Sox GM Kenny Williams said Friday that Gordon Beckham will serve as the club's starting second baseman in 2010. Chris Getz and Josh Fields were shipped to the Royals on Friday for Mark Teahen, who will take over at third base in Chicago. "I can't seem to find the position I've played my whole career," Beckham, a natural shortstop, told MLB.com. Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi, of FOXSports.com, report Chicago White Sox 3B Mark Teahen will not necessarily start at third next season. The team could play him at third base, first base or left field. If the White Sox add a third baseman in the offseason, Teahen could be used in right field.

According to the Kansas City Star, the Royals have signed third baseman Wilson Betemit to a minor league contract.

Our View: The Royals needed someone to fill the void left by Mark Teahen, and since the organization is notoriously stingy, the Betemit move makes sense. He had a depressing .200/.280/.311 line in 45 at-bats with the White Sox last season, so he won't be popping up on any fantasy radars come draft day.

Wilson Betemit is expected to sign a minor league contract with the Royals, according to FOX Sports.

Our View: The Royals would use him as a cost-effective alternative for Mark Teahen, who was dealt to the White Sox.

News: White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez is ending a disappointing season with a disappointing week. He went 1 for 3 with two walks at Detroit on Saturday and is batting .143 (3 for 21) over his last six games.

Analysis: Ramirez hit 21 home runs as a rookie last year, and most people thought he'd build on that number this year. So far, though, he has only 15 home runs. You can't help but call him a disappointment this year, but as a shortstop, he'll still be a must-start Fantasy option entering 2010

News: White Sox OF Alex Rios, who entered the game batting .175 (24 for 145) since coming over form Toronto, had arguably his best game with his new team Saturday at Detroit, going 4 for 5 with a double, three RBI and two stolen bases.

Analysis: Rios will have a starting job for the White Sox entering next season, but he has clearly disappointed this season, batting only .247 after three straight years of batting .290 or higher. He's always a threat to go 20-20, but you wouldn't want to draft him as more than a No. 3 Fantasy OF next year

Rios produced perhaps his finest single-game effort in '09. While he's batting only .247, the outfielder does have 17 homers, 71 RBIs and 24 steals, which is clearly a worthy level of production in standard formats. He might not become the superstar some had hoped he'd become, but he still has the ability to post 20-plus homers and steals.

Chris Haft, of MLB.com, reports the San Francisco Giants are interested in signing free-agent OF Jermaine Dye (White Sox).

Dye said his first choice for a 2010 team would be the White Sox, but he said he realizes the financial aspects of the game may prevent that from happening, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Spin: "I talked to [general manager] Kenny [Williams] and negotiations could still go on," Dye said. "Kenny talked to me about the fact that his hands are tied as far as spending money, but you never know, I could sign for less." Our View: Wise is best remembered for his perfect game-saving catch to preserve Mark Buehrle's historic outing, but his season was a major disappointment outside of that. He has the tools, but he needs to put it together at the plate in addition to staying healthy.

Buehrle held the Indians scoreless over six innings in a win in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday.

Spin: He held the Tribe to three hits (one double), and he struck out three (zero walks). Buehrle only needed 79 pitches, 15 of which went for balls. Buehrle had a string of sub-par starts following his perfect game, but it was nice to see him close the season on a positive note. His 3.84 ERA to close the season was a three-year worst, as were his 105 strikeouts.Wed, Sep 30

News: Chicago SP Mark Buehrle ended his season strong on Wednesday in a win over the Indians in the second game of a doubleheader. Buehrle improved to 13-10 as he allowed just three hits over six shutout innings. He struck out three and left after throwing just 79 pitches. His ERA is at 3.84 on the year.

Analysis: Buehrle was fantastic at times this season but really struggled since pitching his perfect game. Many felt he'd hit a wall as he'd pitched a lot of innings. Still, he was a high-end mixed-league Fantasy option all year and will enter 2010 the same way

WhiteSox.MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports Chicago White Sox SP John Danks hopes to sign an extension in the offseason. Danks turned down a four-year, $15.5 million deal that SP Gavin Floyd agreed to last offseason.

Floyd is reporting no ongoing pain in his sore hip, the White Sox' official website reports.

Spin: Floyd last pitched about seven weeks ago and the rest seems to have helped. "It feels great. It's definitely progressively gotten better," Floyd said. "I haven't tested it out off of the mound, but just from moving around and everything, it feels pretty much back to normal." He'll likely get a rotation spot entering 2010, and while he won't begin the year as a mixed-league option, he has a chance to get back there at age 33

Cabrera singled home two more runs in the sixth, cutting Detroit's deficit to 5-3. In each of the next two innings, the Tigers scored four runs on six hits and sent 10 batters to the plate. Garcia lasted 6 1/3 innings in total, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out three and walked none.

Analysis: Garcia was initially thought to be starting on Friday, but had his start pushed back a day. He has been a decent fill-in for the White Sox rotation for the most part but couldn't keep it together on Saturday. Garcia can be picked up in AL-only formats if needed for his final start, which is scheduled for Friday at Detroit

The Northwest Herald's Tom Musick is reporting Chicago White Sox RP Scott Linebrink, who has allowed 10 runs in his past 12 outings, has been pulled from set-up duty and moved to a lesser role. “I want him to relax a little bit more,” Guillen said. “Don’t feel like every time he’s on the spot, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to throw the ball well.’ We’re trying to get him back on track. As soon as he’s back on track and we feel like he can help us in that situation, he’ll be back to his job.”
