MLB.com reports that centerfielder Willy Taveras was held out of Wednesday's lineup due to a sore hamstring. He's available to pinch-hit and is expected to test the injury again this weekend when the Reds take on the Cubs.

Our View: Taveras is hitting .260 with 12 steals and a .318 OBP. As a leadoff man, the OBP is nearly unacceptable. If he could raise it around 50 points, he could make a significant impact in fantasy leagues due to his ability to steal bases.

The Reds have had terrible luck with injuries recently, but at least Hairston -- back after missing three games with the flu -- is returning to action. In the long run, Hairston may be a better leadoff option than Taveras, anyway, despite being a less prolific base-stealer -- Taveras has just a .318 on-base percentage, while Hairston brought a .318 mark into Wednesday's game and put up a .384 mark in 2008. All but two of Hairston's previous 32 starts this season were in the No. 2 spot in the order, but the Reds were 25-19 last season in games that Hairston led off. "Whether I lead off or hit second, I know my job is to get on base. Obviously hitting second, I may take a few more pitches to give the guy in front of you an opportunity to steal a base." With Hairston leading off, Baker put Dickerson in the second spot.
