Troy Percival is expected to decide whether he will opt for surgery on his back and right knee by next week, according to MLB.com.The 39-year-old is going through his regular rehab, but isn't throwing because it is too early in the off-season. He will see more doctors before making a final decision. The team does not believe they will have the resources to sign a top free agent closer and may have to settle for more frugal choices, such as Kyle Farnsworth, Eddie Guardado, or Keith Foulke, to name a few.

Troy Percival told reporters Tuesday that he is retired "unless something miraculous happens." "There's no need going out when you can't throw more than once in four days," said Percival. "I know that I really can't go out there and do it." He tried to throw off a mound about a month ago, but the post-workout soreness was too much for the 40-year-old to handle.
