It was a nailbiter, as Lilly managed to outduel Chad Billingley

Source (mlb.com) (P - chn) | 0 comments.

It was a nailbiter, as Lilly managed to outduel Chad Billingley in a 2-1 win, snapping a personal two-game losing streak. Lilly's one big mistake was serving up a long ball to Matt Kemp, the 11th allowed in 64 1/3 total innings. Keeping the ball in sight remains the left-hander's biggest weakness, but with a 3.50 ERA and a 52/17 K/BB ratio, his fundamentals are sound enough to continue thriving in the Cubs rotation.

Lilly picks up the win

Source (fanball.com) (SP - chn) | 0 comments.

Ted Lilly picked up his sixth win of the season on Friday with a seven-inning, four-hit, one run performance against the Dodgers. He walked three and struck out five in the Cubs' 2-1 win.

Our View: Lilly has been the Cubs' most consistent starter this season. With injuries to Harden and Zambrano and Dempster's ineffectiveness, Lilly has kept the Cubs in it. Eight of his 11 outings this season have resulted in quality starts.

Status: Out. Questionable for Opening Day
Ted Lilly could miss the start of 2010 after undergoing shoulder surgery on Tuesday, the Cubs announced. In a release, the Cubs said Dr. Lewis Yocum "found no major damage to Lilly’s shoulder and the procedure consisted of a washout and cleanup of the shoulder" and that the surgery took about one hour. Still, Lilly probably won't be 100 percent for the start of spring training and could miss a portion of April. That's not such a bad thing for the Cubs. Lilly might be healthier at the end of next season than he was this year if he gets off to a late start.
