Roenicke traded to Toronto

Source (fanball.com) (3B - tor) | 0 comments.

Josh Roenicke has been traded from Cincinnati to Toronto as part of the deal that shipped Scott Rolen to the Reds, according to TSN.

Our View: Roenicke held a 2.70 ERA over 13.1 innings of relief with the Reds. He should benefit from playing his home games at the pitcher-friendly Rogers Centre with Toronto, but his fantasy value will remain limited as a middle reliever.

Toronto Blue Jays do extremely well by trading Scott Rolen

Source (Keith Law) (3B - tor) | 0 comments.

Rolen Scott Rolen makes the Reds a better club this season and next year but at a steep cost in raw talent. Rolen has changed his approach this season to try to hit for a higher average, knowing that his chronic back issues mean he's not likely to hit for much power, and he remains a superlative defender at third. The Reds are on the fringes of contention this year, and adding Rolen helps them offensively and defensively, but I have to assume this is as much about improving the team in 2010...

Injuries have diminished the 34-year-old Rolen's performance

Source (mlb.com) (3B - tor) | 0 comments.

Injuries have diminished the 34-year-old Rolen's performance in recent seasons, but he's been healthy enough to deliver a .320 average, eight homers and 43 RBIs in this one. Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park is known as a launching pad, though Rolen isn't likely to suddenly start piling up more homers in his new park. Encarnacion, on the other hand, could very well see his numbers quickly rise in the aftermath of this trade. The 26-year-old has sputtered to a .209 average and five homers this season, but he showed plenty of power potential with 26 jacks in '08. With a fresh start following a few uneven seasons in Cincinnati, Encarnacion could be primed for a strong stretch run. Roenicke, who posted a 2.70 ERA in 11 appearances for the Reds this season, gives the Jays some bullpen depth. Stewart, who was 4-1 with a 1.67 ERA in 23 appearances (14 starts) across three Minor League levels, could also be called to help Toronto's bullpen.

Rolen to Reds

Source (fanball.com) (3B - tor) | 0 comments.

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Reds have acquired third baseman Scott Rolen from the Blue Jays.

Our View: There is a catch here. Rolen has a no trade clause that he would have to waive for the deal to be complete. It's hard to see him saying no to a return to the NL, a reunion with GM Walt Jocketty, a move that brings him closer to his Indiana home and a chance to stick it to his former team (St. Louis). Stay tuned.
