Rodriguez may be PTBNL in Kazmir deal
According to the Twitter page of DRaysBay.com, there are rumors circulating that Sean Rodriguez will be the player to be named later in the Scott Kazmir deal. Rodriguez is hitting .301 with 29 homers and 93 RBI for the Angels' Triple-A affiliate this season.
Our View: If Rodriguez does turn out to be the PTBNL, it would be a pretty nice haul for the Rays in return for Kaz. Rodriguez has been tearing up Triple-A pitching this season, and it is rare that the third player in a trade like this possesses the upside that Rodriguez does. When something is confirmed, we will let you know.

Kazmir to start for Angels on Wednesday
News: SP Scott Kazmir is scheduled to make his Angels debut on Wednesday at Seattle on six days rest against Felix Hernandez. He has a 3.14 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP with 32 punchouts in 28 2/3 career innings at Safeco, so he should be a fine starting option in his first game with the Halos. Considering he's made three straight quality starts, posting a 21/6 K/BB ratio in 19 2/3 innings in the process, there's no reason to sit him on Sept. 2.
Kazmir to make Halos debut on Wednesday
Scott Kazmir will make his first start for the Angels this Wednesday against the Mariners, according to MLB.com.
Our View: Kazmir was tagged for seven runs in just 4.1 innings in his only start against the Mariners earlier this season, and it's hard to know just which Kazmir could show up Wednesday: the pitcher who was routinely shelled through the first four and a half months of the season, or the pitcher who has surrendered just seven runs in his past 19.2 innings.

Sonnanstine to replace Kazmir
Andy Sonnanstine will be recalled from the minor leagues and take the recently traded Scott Kazmir's turn in the rotation on Tuesday night, according to the St. Petersburg Times' Marc Topkin.
Our View: Sonnantsine did not fare well in 15 major league starts earlier this season, limping to a 6-7 record and 6.61 ERA.
Kazmir as an Angel
We’ve taken a shot at predicting the fantasy value of position players in new digs, and now it’s time to see what a Tampa Bay pitcher can do in the city of Angels. Scott Kazmir leaves a park in Tampa Bay that is relatively kind to fly ball pitchers and has averaged a .916 park [...]
Tampa Bay Rays simply couldn't afford to keep left-hander Scott Kazmir
Buster Olney's blog for Aug. 29, 2009, looks at the reasons the Tampa Bay Rays couldn't afford to hold onto left-handed pitcher Scott Kazmir, whom they traded to the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.

Walden headed to Tampa Bay
Jordan Walden is the player to be named later in the trade that sent Scott Kazmir from the Rays to the Angels, according to HalosHeaven.com.
Our View: Rays' skipper Joe Maddon is excited about getting Walden, but the 21-year-old hurler is just 1-5 with a 5.25 ERA over 13 starts with Double-A Arkansas this season. It will be a while before he will be ready to join the Rays.
Angels | Kazmir could start early next week
The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Scott Kazmir could make his debut with the Angels Tuesday, Sept. 1, or Wednesday, Sept. 2, according to manager Mike Scioscia.
Morales powers Angels to 11-7 win over Oakland
Scott Kazmir probably had no use for the Rally Monkey when he was pitching for the Tampa Bay Rays. Now, the two-time All-Star will get a chance to benefit from him as he begins the next phase of his big league career with the Los Angeles Angels.
Angels general manager Tony Reagins said Kazmir will join the
Angels general manager Tony Reagins said Kazmir will join the team "real soon," but the GM declined to say when he will make his first start with the club. Reagins also said the Angels were interested in Kazmir because he's still young and has the potential to bounce back after struggling a bit this season to the tune of an 8-7 record with a 5.92 ERA in 20 starts. One source of those struggles is that Kazmir has seen his average velocity on his fastball go from 92.1 mph two years ago to 90.7 mph this season. But Reagins was encouraged by Kazmir's last start, when he reached 95 mph in the sixth inning against the Blue Jays on Wednesday in a game where he struck out 10 batters. Kazmir joins John Lackey, Joe Saunders, Jered Weaver and Ervin Santana in the rotation.

According to USA Today, the Rays have received third baseman Mathew Sweeney, LHP Alexander Torres and a player to be named later from the Angels for Scott Kazmir.

Kazmir to Angels deal goes through
News: Scott Kazmir was traded from the Rays to the Angels on Friday night, giving the AL West leaders a major boost to their unsteady rotation. The Angels acquired Kazmir, a two-time All-Star, for two minor leaguers and a player to be named. Tampa Bay receives left-hander Alex Torres and third baseman Matt Sweeney in the deal. Because he was dealt before Aug. 31, Kazmir is eligible for postseason play with Los Angeles. He had to clear waivers to be traded at this point in the season. The move came as a bit of a surprise because the 25-year-old Kazmir was a key part of a talented young core that helped Tampa Bay go from perennial losers to pennant winners last year. But the trade provides salary relief for the cost-conscious Rays, who have several important budget decisions to make soon. [...]

Kazmir officially an Angel
After much flip-flopping, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports via Twitter that the Scott Kazmir deal is done. He heads to the Angels for prospects Alexander Torres and Matthew Sweeney.
Our View: Apparently no money will change hands in the deal, so it looks to be a salary dump for the Rays. The Angels will absorb the $20-plus million owed to Kazmir over the next two years. LA gets to shore up their patchwork rotation and the Rays save some cash and get a couple of so-so prospects. It still seems like a strange deal, but both teams seemed to get what they wanted.

Kazmir trade falls through
MLB.com reports that the proposed trade that would have sent Scott Kazmir to the Angels for prospects Alexander Torres and Matthew Sweeney has fallen through.
Our View: It seemed strange that the Rays would dump Kazmir for two middle of the road prospects, especially with Tampa's "ace" turning it on in his last three starts. No word on why the deal fell through, but it's likely that the Rays came to their senses and pulled the plug, seeing as how they are in the thick of the Wild Card race.
Why Tampa Bay traded Kazmir to Angels
The Tampa Bay Rays were likely going to shop Scott Kazmir this winter, so his trade to the Los Angeles Angels is simply a matter of moving sooner rather than later, especially because Kazmir has pitched to an ERA near 6.00 this year. The trade gets the Rays out from under almost $25 million due a pitcher showing continued signs of regression.

Kaz headed to Angels?
MLB.com is reporting that the Angels are close to acquiring Rays' starter Scott Kazmir. The deal would reportedly send Kazmir to LA in exchange for prospects Alexander Torres and Matthew Sweeney.
Our View: The deal is nearly done, and it is expected to be announced later today. After Kazmir's last outing in which he allowed only one run on four hits while striking out 10, this deal looks a heck of a lot better from the Angels' perspective. With all of the trouble the Halos have had in their rotation this season, a healthy Kaz would be a very nice upgrade.

Rays | Kazmir fans 10
The Associated Press reports Tampa Bay Rays SP Scott Kazmir allowed a run on four hits, a walk and struck out 10 in six innings in his no-decision against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Although Kazmir wasn't able to run his August record to an impressive 4-1, he once again resembled the electric southpaw that captured the hearts of fantasy owners in all formats thanks to his dominating stuff and high whiff counts. Kazmir's 10 Ks set a new high for the year and came during what was the power-armed lefty's third straight quality start, his longest run of the year. Throw him back out there with confidence when Kazmir next takes the mound at home against the Red Sox.

Kazmir solid in no-decision
Scott Kazmir only allowed one earned run on four hits over six innings in Wednesday's 3-2 loss at Toronto. He issued one walk and racked up 10 strikeouts.
Our View: Kazmir had a strong outing, and it is a shame he was forced to settle for a no-decision. He trimmed his ERA to 5.92, and reached double digits in strikeouts for the first time this season.

Kazmir faded quickly in the eighth frame after rendering the Rangers scoreless on five hits through seven innings. The excellent effort for the majority of the matchup helped Kazmir realize his fourth win in five starts. Consider him a fine starting option Aug. 26 against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
Kazmir holds off Rangers attack
Scott Kazmir held the Rangers to three runs on five hits and a pair of walks over 7.1 innings on Friday. He fanned four and earned his eighth win of the season.
Our View: Kazmir looked to be on the way to his best start of the season, but faltered in the eighth inning allowing all three runs on the frame. Still, he got his record above .500 on the year (8-7).
Kazmir wins fourth in last five
News: Rays SP Scott Kazmir won for the fourth time in five starts Friday against the Rangers, allowing three runs on five hits in 7 1/3 innings. He issued two walks and recorded four strikeouts. "That's as good as he's been all year in my mind," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "It was really fun to watch. I was really impressed." Kazmir takes win at Tropicana
Scott Kazmir gave up three earned runs on five hits over 6.1 innings in Saturday's 8-3 win over the Jays at Tropicana Field. He had three walks and seven strikeouts.

Kaz suffered a setback in a big way Sunday by allowing seven earned runs for the fourth time in '09. Kazmir roughed up by Mariners
News: Rays SP Scott Kazmir continued to look like anything but Tampa Bay's pitching star of 2008, getting rocked by the Mariners on Sunday in an 11-2 loss. "Kazmir just had a tough time today," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "He was throwing the ball in bad spots ... and they pretty much beat us up." The 2008 All-Star and starting pitcher in Game 1 of last fall's World Series lasted just 4 1/3 innings, his shortest outing since he returned in late May from missing a month with a strained quadriceps. He allowed nine hits and seven runs, increasing his ERA to 6.50. [...]
Kazmir lit up in Seattle
Scott Kazmir was lit up for seven earned runs on nine hits over a mere 4.1 innings in Sunday's 11-2 loss at Seattle. He had two walks and three strikeouts.
Our View: Kazmir had a nightmarish outing, and now has a losing record at 6-7. That marks the seventh time this season that he allowed six or more earned runs, and hopefully he will be more consistent down the stretch for fantasy owners.

Scott Kazmir was rocked for seven runs in 4 1/3 innings of a loss to the Mariners on Sunday. Kazmir entered the day having thrown back-to-back quality starts, but it was back to being hit hard today as he gave up seven runs for the fourth time in 10 starts. [...]

Scott Kazmir earned his sixth win of the season on Monday afternoon as the Rays defeated the Royals by a score of 10-4. Kazmir went six innings and allowed three runs and six hits while walking one and striking out five.
Our View: Another nice outing for Kaz today, and it is starting to look like he has put his early season struggles behind him. Fantasy owners should keep running him out there while he is pitching well, and it for any reason he is available in your league you should give him a good hard look.
