Bradford's return boosts Rays' bullpen
Still a month before the Trade Deadline, the Rays may feel like they've made two acquisitions already. The return of starter Scott Kazmir earned the most notoriety.
Kazmir logs a fine first start off the DL
Scott Kazmir looked solid in his first start since coming off his month-long DL stint with a strained right quadriceps, picking up a no decision after giving up two runs off four hits and one walk with five strikeouts in five innings.
Our View: Don't even bother looking at Kazmir's ERA or WHIP the rest of the year, as he was literally too awful over the first month and a half to ever make up for the discrepancy this season. Still, he's been a very effective starter the previous three seasons and remains one of the most talented young lefties in the league, so there's every reason to believe he'll be a fine fantasy starter going forward as long as he stays healthy.
Aybar's sac fly gives Rays walk-off win
Scott Kazmir looked sharp in his return and Willy Aybar's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth led the Rays to a 3-2 walk-off win over the Marlins on Saturday night.
Rays SP Scott Kazmir made his first start in over a month for
News: Rays SP Scott Kazmir made his first start in over a month for Tampa Bay on Saturday against the Marlins, allowing two runs and four hits in five innings and taking a no decision. He threw 61 of his 92 pitches for strikes, walked one and struck out five, including Chris Coghlan three times. The first inning has been a problem for the left-hander, and he fell behind quickly again this time with the Marlins taking a 1-0 lead without getting a hit. Carroll's third homer of the season made it 2-0 in the third. Fifteen of the 30 walks Kazmir has allowed this year have come in the first inning, and the 25-year-old has trailed after one inning in his each of his four losses. Emilio Bonifacio drew an early pass Saturday, then stole second and third before scoring Florida's first run when Hanley Ramirez grounded out. [...]

Scott Kazmir struck out five over five innings and allowed two
Scott Kazmir struck out five over five innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk in his return to the rotation on Saturday against the Marlins, but took a no-decision.
Analysis: Kazmir looked pretty sharp on Saturday, despite missing 32 games with a strained right quadriceps, giving owners (and Rays fans) hope that he might be putting his early struggles behind him. In his first nine starts, Kazmir walked 29 batters in 45 2/3 innings and allowed 39 runs and 60 hits, and his 7.69 ERA was among the worst in baseball at the time of his injury. He was more assertive and in-command on Saturday, working quickly and fairly efficiently. The Rays -- and many fantasy owners -- are counting on Kazmir to return to the dominant, K-compiling form that made him an ace in both the American League and fantasy leagues over the last two seasons. While this was only a five-inning no-decision against a middling offense, it was also clearly a step in the right direction. He'll look to build on this in his next start, in Texas on July 3.
Rays | Kazmir activated from 15-day disabled list
Updating previous reports, the Tampa Bay Rays have activated SP Scott Kazmir (quadriceps) from the 15-day disabled list, according to USAToday.com.
Nate McLouth left Friday's game in the bottom of the eighth
Nate McLouth left Friday's game in the bottom of the eighth inning after suffering a left hamstring strain. The injury came while McLouth ran to first base on a bunt attempt. He explained there wasn't a great deal of pain after the initial sensation, and he doesn't expect to miss much time. "It almost felt like a bad cramp," McLouth said. "I shouldn't miss more than one or two days at the most." There's no word on who's expected to replace McLouth, but Gregor Blanco pinch-ran for him and then replaced him in center field. Considering McLouth is expected to miss only one or two games, weekly leaguers should still feel comfortable leaving him active for the week beginning June 29.
Analysis: To make room in the starting rotation for the lefty, Andy Sonnanstine was demoted to Triple-A Durham. Expect better stats from Kazmir, who was 4-4 with a 7.69 ERA and a 1.95 WHIP before suffering a right quadriceps strain May 20. While rehabbing his injury, the lefty shortened a stride that had become over-extended, which manager Joe Maddon thinks should enable Kazmir to better execute his delivery. Given the strikeout-prone nature of the Marlins offense, Kaz could get off to a quick start in his return. Sonnanstine was 6-7 with a 6.61 ERA and a 1.53 in 15 starts, so he could use some work in the Minors.
