Last week, Kazmir told reporters he'd like to play for Team
Last week, Kazmir told reporters he'd like to play for Team USA, noting: "It's an opportunity I'd love to take advantage of." But according to the Rays ace, Tampa Bay filed a request with Major League Baseball that would effectively prevent him from playing due to the fact he spent 44 days on the disabled list in 2008. Players who were on the DL for 45 days can be blocked from playing. "We felt with the health issues he had at the beginning of last season, coupled with playing the extra month, we felt the prudent thing to do is to push him back a little bit this spring," said Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.
