Roy Oswalt struck out eight and allowed just two hits, two walks and one earned run in a complete-game win over San Diego on Monday.

Analysis: Yes, it was against the Padres, but this was vintage Oswalt on Monday. After being maddeningly up-and-down over the first couple months of the season, Oswalt has now put together two straight fine starts, striking out 16 in his last 15 innings pitched and allowing just nine hits and two earned runs during that stretch. Again, those games came against the Padres and Royals, but Oswalt is better than he's looked thus far, and may be on his way towards really locking in. He'll be on the mound on July 4 when the Astros face the Giants in San Francisco.

Analysis: Oswalt continues to run hot and cold this season, as his last six starts have alternated between stellar and far from stellar. He�s allowed zero or one earned run in five starts this year, but he�s also been touched for more than four earned runs on three occasions, underscoring the roller coaster ride it�s been for the veteran ace. His 75/28 K/BB ratio in 97 1/3 innings shows he�s still got it; it�s just a matter of trying to diagnose which lineups are going to get to him. Oswalt is on track to take the hill again on June 29 vs. a San Diego team he�s already beaten once this year, so owners should give him the nod.
