The Jays might as well check and see what they have in Romero, who turned in seven strong innings in a start against the Astros in Kissimmee on Sunday. He allowed two runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and no walks, throwing 98 pitches. Romero, 24, was competing against Brad Mills and Scott Richmond for one of the two available starting roles. Mills and Richmond are now fighting for the rotation's fifth spot with a week to go before Opening Day.
