Rich Harden gave up three home runs in 4.2 innings as the Cubs tied the Royals 8-8 on Monday. He allowed four hits, two walks, and five earned runs while striking out four.

Our View: Harden has had a pretty rough spring, but he has been phenomenal in his career when healthy. The Cubs believe he can make 30-plus starts this season and if he does he could challenge to be a top 10 starter. However, he has not made 30 starts since 2004.

News: Rich Harden returned to the mound for the first time since March 15 because of food poisoning and gave up three homers and five runs in the Chicago Cubs' 8-8, 10-inning tie with the Kansas City Royals on Monday. Harden gave up four hits in 4 2/3 innings while walking two and striking out four. "I'm feeling good and got my strength back," Harden said. "I threw 80 pitches and was still feeling just as strong at the end of it, which is good. We'll extend it a little more next time. My body is as strong as it's going to be. I'm ready to go." Harden lost seven pounds after eating tainted chicken salad. "I'm starting to put some weight back on," he said. "I'm still down a couple of pounds, but that's it. I'm definitely feeling a whole lot stronger now and it's back to normal, back to where I was before. My shoulder is feeling really strong, which is good." Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild feels that Rich Harden should be able to make it through a full season as a member of the Cubs rotation, according to ESPN.com. "He's really worked hard, made some changes in his delivery, and I'm hopeful he'll make it through the year," Rothschild said. "He's a special guy."

Our View: He is a special guy...when he's healthy. Fantasy owners should be well aware of Harden's tendency to land on the DL for long durations. There are few pitchers in baseball that are more effective than Harden when he is healthy. In 148 innings pitched last season, he had a 2.07 ERA to go with 181 strikeouts.
