Los Angeles Dodgers SP Randy Wolf allowed one run on one hit over seven innings Friday, Aug. 21, against the Chicago Cubs, according to The Associated Press. He walked two and struck out five, improving to 8-6 on the year. At the plate, Wolf was 1-for-1 with a double and two RBIs. His 11 RBIs are the most for a Dodgers pitcher since Fernando Valenzuela also drove in 11 runs in 1990.

It's time for mixed leaguers to jump on board Wolf's expanding bandwagon. After a 10-strikeout performance Aug. 16 vs. the D-backs and Friday's effort -- his second one-earned run performance in three starts -- Wolf seems like tantalizing addition at time of year when quality free agent starters can be hard to locate. That said, it would be wise to sit him Aug. 27 vs. the Rockies at Coors Field, where he holds a 5.46 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP in 28 career innings.

Wolf finished a triple finished a triple short of the cycle and pitched neatly into the eighth inning, leading Los Angeles to a 9-3 victory over the Diamondbacks on Sunday that snapped a three-game losing streak. Wolf (7-6) struck out 10 in 7 2/3 innings and did not walk a batter while winning consecutive starts for the first time this season. He has 13 no decisions in 26 starts this season. "What can I say? He’s been dominant over his last two outings, going 2-0 and surrendering just eight hits and four earned runs in 15 2/3 innings to lower his ERA to 3.43. The savvy elder statesman doesn’t throw hard, but that hasn’t stopped him from holding opposing hitters to a paltry .239 batting average against. He’ll look to build on a stellar 1.14 WHIP when he takes the hill again on Aug. 21 vs. the Cubs.
