Remember back in mid-June when Wells was the winless wonder?
Remember back in mid-June when Wells was the winless wonder? Well the right-hander is 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in eight turns since then. Wells didnÂ’t have his sharpest control Wednesday, but itÂ’s hard to lose when you get 17 outs on the ground (compared to six through the air) and induce four double plays. Wells is worth starting in all leagues, even in his next turn at hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark against the Reds on August 3.
Wells stays hot for resurgent Cubs
News: Randy Wells pitched eight shutout innings and Alfonso Soriano hit a three-run homer during a six-run first inning Wednesday, leading the Cubs to an 12-0 victory over the Astros. Aramis Ramirez homered and drove in two runs for the Cubs, who battered Mike Hampton and improved to 10-3 since the All-Star break. Wells (7-4) is the first Cubs rookie with seven victories since Kerry Wood won 13 in 1998. The 26-year-old righty gave up six singles, walked two, struck out one and let only one runner get as far as second base. Using his sinker, Wells got Houston to ground into three double plays. [...]

Cubs | Wells sharp Wednesday
The Associated Press reports Chicago Cubs SP Randy Wells (7-4) tossed eight shutout innings in a win over the Houston Astros Wednesday, July 29, becoming the first Cubs' rookie to win seven games since 1998. Wells gave up six singles, struck out one and let only one runner advance as far as second base. He also induced the Astros into three double plays by using his sinker. Wells leads all rookies with a 2.84 ERA.
Wells baffles Astros
Randy Wells had the best start of his short MLB career thus far on Wednesday, dominating the Astros at Wrigley Field. The young righty pitched eight shutout innings, while striking out one and allowing just eight baserunners. The Cubs won 12-0.
Our View: Wells has shown no letup since being inserted into the Cubs starting rotation, and is a solid candidate to buy low in more causal leagues because of his lack of name recognition. Flip a struggling name from an area of strength.
