Phil Hughes has been optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by the Yankees, according to MLB.com. GM Brian Cashman said, "I told him that he had a great camp and to keep working. We told him about all the things that we saw and what he needs to continue to work on. He is in a great frame of mind. He knows he did great here, but he also knows that it's not in his best interest to now be held back."
Our View: Hughes did not have a shot to earn a rotation spot out of spring training, but Cashman noted that Hughes would be among the first considered if one of their starters goes down with an injury. Hughes is worth stashing in deeper AL-only leagues.
