The Toronto Sun's Bob Elliott reports that the Chicago Cubs are considering trading OF Milton Bradley to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for OF Vernon Wells. An unnamed Cubs official was quoted as saying, "We think this one has some legs." Bradley has two years and $21 million remaining on his contract, while Wells has six years and $107 million remaining. According to Elliott, because of the $86 million difference in contracts, both teams would be expected to absorb $43 million if the trade were completed. However, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reported that a Cubs source said the story has "no legs at all," and added that the Cubs had never discussed the possibility of trading for Wells.

The Toronto Sun is reporting that the Cubs and Blue Jays have opened discussions on a trade that would send troubled outfielder Milton Bradley north of the border in exchange for center fielder Vernon Wells. These talks reportedly "has legs", according to a Cubs' official.

Our View: This swap would make plenty of sense, as the Cubs have to get rid of Bradley and the Jays would love to get rid of Wells and his contract. There has been a ton of interest in Bradley already this offseason, surprisingly enough, so it looks like the Cubbies might still get something decent in return.

A tumultuous ’09 campaign ended on a low note for Bradley, who was suspended for the final two weeks of the season after he said the Cubs “were not a positive environment”. Despite being just one year into a three-year, $30 million deal with Chicago, the volatile veteran is being actively shopped by the club. If general manager Jim Hendry is able to move him, that could pave the way for 27-year-old Jake Fox -- who batted .259 with 11 homers and 44 RBIs in 216 at-bats -- to assume a more regular role in 2010. No matter where he is, there will be a fair share of risk associated with investing in Bradley next season.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Milton Bradley is drawing a high level of interest from other teams. The Rays, in particular, are believed to be among the frontrunners for his services.

Our View: Bradley had a miserable season in Chicago and the team seems to have made it their top offseason priority to move the enigmatic outfielder. He is much better suited for the AL where he can be used primarily as a DH.

News: The Cubs have hired former Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo to serve in the same capacity, but they'll still likely look to trade OF Milton Bradley, who had his best year under Jaramillo in 2008. "Obviously hiring Rudy had nothing to do with that," general manager Jim Hendry said. "It's like I told you at the end of the year, we play the cards that we have and Milton is on the Cubs' roster and that's how we go about it until somebody is not on the roster." Jaramillo said he can work with anyone, including Bradley. "I don't know what his status is or whatever, but I have no problem," Jaramillo said. The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the Cubs have been pushing the Rays to make a deal for troubled outfielder Milton Bradley. The Rays were interested in Bradley before he signed with the Cubs last season, and Chicago would take Pat Burrell off the Rays' hands in addition to covering a portion of Bradley's remaining salary.

Our View: You may ask yourself, "Why would the Rays even consider this?" The answer is that it could be an outstanding deal for Tampa depending on how much of Bradley's salary the Cubs are willing to eat. If the Rays can get rid of their mistake (Burrell) to take a chance on a player with considerably more upside (Bradley) and cutting some salary in the process, it would be a no-brainer. The Cubs want this done quick, but they better be ready to eat a ton of salary if they want to deal with the Rays.

According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, a reported three-team deal involving the Cubs, Mets, Rangers and Milton Bradley will not happen. Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reported Friday morning that a deal which would send Kevin Millwood to the Mets, Luis Castillo to the Cubs, and Bradley to Texas was in the works. Sullivan spoke to a "high-ranking" Rangers official Friday afternoon, who said bluntly: "Not happening." The Rangers have Millwood tabbed as their No. 1 starter heading into the 2010 season.
