Mets | Pelfrey the loser Wednesday
The Associated Press reports New York Mets SP Mike Pelfrey (9-9) lost to the Florida Marlins Wednesday, Aug. 26, to fall to 1-6 in 10 career starts against them, with six losses in a row. Pelfrey allowed 11 hits, five walks and five runs in 5 2/3 innings. He threw a season-high 118 pitches, including 71 in the first three innings.

Pelfrey entered his latest tilt with a lifetime 0-1 record and a bloated 5.94 ERA in three career starts at Land Shark Stadium and exited after getting knocked around to an even worse degree by the surging Marlins offense. It should be hard for the tall right-hander to take away any positives from this one, as he set dubious season highs in hits allowed, walks handed out and pitches thrown. Things don't look to get any easier for the big guy, who will travel to Colorado to make his next start on Sept. 1 against the Rockies.

Mike Pelfrey got hit hard by the Marlins on Wednesday, allowing 11 hits and five runs in five innings, as the Mets lost 5-3 on the road.
Our View: Pelfrey closed 2008 very strong for the Mets, but is doing no such thing this year, posting a 5.53 ERA in eight post All-Star game starts.
