The Associated Press reports Washington Nationals RP Mike MacDougal struck out one while pitching one inning Sunday, June 28, to earn his third save of the year.

Mike MacDougal picked up his third save of the year after firing a scoreless ninth and fanning a batter against the Orioles.
Analysis: The good news is that MacDougal has nailed down all three of his save opportunities since being named the Nats' official ninth-inning man on June 6. That bad news, of course, is that the 32-year-old has received just three chances in a little over three weeks. That doesn't figure to change as the 22-59 Nationals could start unloading their best players before the trade deadline, depleting an already punchless lineup and resulting in fewer leads being entrusted to MacDougal.

Mike MacDougal underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right hip on Tuesday. The surgery was performed by Dr. Marc Philippon in Colorado. MacDougal is slated to begin a throwing program in six to eight weeks and should be ready by spring training. The righty found success with the Nationals, posting a 3.60 ERA and 20 saves in 21 opportunities, however his 1.52 WHIP and 30/30 K/BB ratio indicates it was likely built on a house of cards. If the Nats choose to bring him back, he would cost over $3 million in arbitration.
