Jon Paul Morosi, of The Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Tigers 2B prospect Michael Hollimon (shoulder) is expected to miss roughly half the 2009 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left, non-throwing shoulder. Dr. James Andrews performed the operation in Birmingham, Ala., on Thursday, Sept. 18. Recovery time for Hollimon will likely be six to nine months.

Tigers recalled infielder Michael Hollimon from Double-A Erie and placed him on the 60-day disabled list. Purely a procedural transaction, the move enables the Tigers to make room for infielder Brent Dlugach on the 40-man roster. Also, similar to what the Phillies did with pitcher John Ennis on Monday, it also gives the club some roster flexibility for the post-season.
