The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Palmer and four relievers combined on a one-hitter to beat the Texas Rangers 5-0 Wednesday, Sept. 30. It was the sixth combined one-hitter in Angels history and the first since July 24, 2004.

It's a testament to the Angels' pitching depth and all-around excellence that Palmer has managed to run up an 11-2 record this season despite serving as the team's fifth-to-seventh starter. It has been a good season for the well-traveled 30-year-old, who had made just two big league appearances prior to 2009. He posted just a 66/54 K/BB ratio in 119 1/3 innings and doesn't have overwhelming stuff, but while Palmer will have to fight for a spot in the rotation in 2010, he'll be worth owning in AL-only formats if he can claim a spot.
