Todd Helton went 3-for-5 with a solo homer off Matt Cain on Tuesday, but the Rockies fell 9-5 and now share the Wild Card lead with the Giants.

Our View: The homer is just Helton's 13th this season and he has just four over the last two months. Still, for his part he's hitting .326. Good for third in the National League.

Although Cain is thought of as a dependable source for K's, he had fanned six-plus batters just twice in 11 starts heading into Sunday. The strikeout-prone Rockies lineup helped Cain make that three times in 12 starts, and the righty should be able to miss another slew of bats in his Sept. 4 appearance against a K-happy Brewers batting order at Miller Park.

Other than that, it was a vintage performance from the young righty, who had struggled a bit before Thursday, going 0-2 with a 4.84 ERA over his last three starts. He appears to be back on track now, and will look to notch his first win since July 24 when he carries a 2.43 ERA into his next start on Aug. 25 vs. the D-backs.

Matt Cain was sharp once again on Thursday, but couldn't earn his 13th win of the season. He held the Reds to just one run on eight hits and a walk over eight frames, but the Giants eventually fell 2-1 in ten innings.

Our View: Cain lowered his ERA to a sparkling 2.43 after Thursday's performance and had easily his best start of the month. Despite his August struggles (4.84 coming into Thursday's start) he's still a top-five front runner for the NL Cy Young.

Our View: Cain has lost in back-to-back starts, and has four losses for the season. He still co-leads the Giants with Tim Lincecum with 12 wins, and has a rock-solid 2.44 ERA. He should bounce back fine from today's disappointing outing.
