The Associated Press reports Chicago White Sox SP Mark Buehrle (13-10) tossed six shutout innings in a win over the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, Sept. 30. He gave up three hits, two in the first inning, and struck out three in one of his best outings since his perfect game July 23. Buehrle is the only active pitcher to throw at least 200 innings in each of the last nine seasons.

It's tempting to see Buehrle's perfect game as the high point of his 2009 campaign, given that 1) it was, after all, a perfect game and 2) he went just 2-7 afterwards. But leaving the perfecto aside, Buehrle was right around his career norms all season long, excepting a rough August in which he put up a 5.54 ERA, and pitched in tough luck down the stretch. His 13-10 record and 3.84 ERA and 1.25 WHIP are a good reminder of what Buehrle can (and almost always does) offer fantasy owners -- steadiness, wins and good percentages, despite mediocre strikeout totals.

Our View: Buehrle finishes his 2009 season, which of course included a perfect game, 13-10 with a 3.84 ERA in 33 starts. It is the seventh time in his ten-year career that he has won at least 13 games.

The Arlington Heights Daily Herald reports Chicago White Sox SP Mark Buehrle lasted just 3 1/3 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits as the White Sox lost 8-6 to the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, Sept. 23. "I've seen him get hit, but his stuff wasn't there at all," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "His velocity was down, and you could see from the beginning the best stuff wasn't going to come out of his hand." Guillen went on to say Buehrle will be penciled in for his next two starts, but he has thrown over 207 innings this year and if he is not up to it Guillen won't hesitate to start someone else.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the White Sox are considering shutting down starting pitcher Mark Buehrle for the rest of the season. If the team is eliminated from playoff contention soon, Buehrle will likely be done for the year.

Our View: The Sox don't appear to be going to the playoffs this season, so it seems very likely that Buehrle may be about done for the year. He has been a model of consistency over his career, and the team wants to make sure he remains healthy as they take a run to the division title next season.
