Mark Buehrle's dance with the seemingly impossible eventually missed a step, but the performance was puncuated by a once-hostile crowd stunned by what they had witnessed. It made for a great moment, says Buster Olney. Plus miles of aisles of trade notes.

Buehrle sets record, then loses

Source (CBSSports.com) (SP - cha) | 0 comments.

News: Perfect again into the sixth inning Tuesday at Minnesota, White Sox SP Mark Buehrle wound up with a loss despite a record-setting performance. Coming off the 18th perfect game in major-league history, Buehrle retired the first 17 batters on Tuesday night to set a record with 45 outs in a row before the Twins rallied for a 5-3 victory over the White Sox. Buehrle (11-4) lost what would have been his second consecutive perfect game and his no-hitter with two outs in the sixth. He wound up allowing five runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings, issuing one walk and recording three strikeouts. [...]

Buehrle takes loss despite setting record

Source (fanball.com) (SP - cha) | 0 comments.

Tuesday was a bittersweet night for White Sox' starter Mark Buehrle, as he was hit with the loss despite being perfect through 5.2 innings. Buehrle went 6.1 innings and allowed five runs on five hits while walking one and striking out three. He also set the major league record with 45 straight batters retired spanning his last two starts.

Our View: For a while tonight it was looking like we were going to witness history, as Buehrle was perfect into the sixth. The wheels fell apart with two outs in the inning, and he ended up taking the loss. The team will likely forgive him for this one after throwing his perfect game in his last start, but the celebration for his new ML record will probably be pretty somber after the loss.

Punto drives in two in win

Source (fanball.com) (SP - cha) | 0 comments.

Nick Punto drove in two for the Twins on Tuesday as they got the best of Mark Buehrle and the White Sox by a score of 5-3. Punto went 1-for-3 with a run scored to go along with his two driven in.

Our View: The Twins' offense didn't do much big damage against the Sox tonight, but they did enough to get the win. Punto is known more for his defense than his bat, and with the Twins looking to acquire a middle infielder his at-bats could see a large decrease going forward.

Numbers in parenthesis for each team indicates total runs scored that game. Numbers next to each pitcher indicates earned runs. This stat is used to get a better understanding of the performance of the pitcher and how much run support he got from his team.

The run differential is based on total runs each team scored when Mark Buehrle has a decision. (i.e. win/loss) Similarly, the opposing pitcher listed also received a decision.
