Khalil Greene was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a recurrence of the anxiety issues that sidelined him earlier this season. Reliever Clayton Mortensen was recalled from Triple-A Louisville to replace Greene on the roster.

Analysis: Greene looked good immediately upon his return from the DL, but was struggling again with his anxiety disorder. Greene, who was activated from the DL on June 18 after missing three weeks to seek treatment for his condition, was 0-for-16 in his last 16 at-bats. He struck out twice and committed an error at third base on Sunday against the Twins and had to be removed in the seventh inning. Mortensen was scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Memphis on Monday, but instead made his way to St. Louis to join the Cardinals. Mortensen was 7-4 with a 4.24 ERA in 14 starts for Memphis. The Cards are now carrying 13 pitchers.

Our View: After hitting three home runs in his first series back, at Kansas City, Greene went 0-for-13 in the Cardinals series against the Mets last week and has apparently suffered a setback.
