Justin Verlander held a 4.84 ERA and barely passable 1.40 WHIP over 33 starts in 2008, but remains as confident as ever heading into the new campaign, according to the Detroit News. He said, "I've always believed in my ability. That's just the way I'm built. What I went through was frustrating, but I don't think I got too frustrated. I'm always able to have a short-term memory and look on the positive side of things. I don't think it's that easy to put a finger on it and say, 'This is what went wrong.' I look at it and say there was a stretch in the middle of the season when a lot went right and I was throwing the ball very well. I need to get back to that."Verlander has started throwing earlier this winter, and with more long-toss than in the past. He noted that he feels good with the way the ball is leaving his hand. He won 18 games in 2007, and could be a good fantasy bargain if he can get back on track in 2009.
