Reyes continues to progress
Jose Reyes showed good signs of progression over the weekend, taking infield and batting practice, but has yet to run "full throttle" since being placed on the disabled list with right calf tendinitis, according to the New York Daily News.
Our View: This will be the final hurdle he will have to clear before a potential return, but he still does not appear to be imminently close to doing so. Regardless, he is steadily progressing and Reyes owners should start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel very soon.
Mets | Reyes update
The New York Daily News' Adam Rubin reports New York Mets SS Jose Reyes (hamstring) jogged in the outfield, took infield and batting practice over the weekend. He hasn't ran at full speed yet, though.
From The Sports Xchange: Shortstop Jose B. Reyes looks like
News: From The Sports Xchange: Shortstop Jose B. Reyes looks like he won't be activated from the disabled list until after the All-Star break, but at least there are signs of progress. Reyes spent the weekend testing his strained right hamstring tendon by jogging in the outfield at Citi Field during the Mets' weekend series against the Yankees. Because he has been idle for so long, Reyes indicated the hamstring had weakened, so he needs to gradually build up strength. He has spent two hours daily working on his leg strength in a gym. Reyes also has resumed taking infield and batting practice with teammates before games. "My leg's a little weak," Reyes said. "I have to get a little stronger before I try to run full speed, but I'm going to get there. ... I have to do it one step at a time. I don't want to get on the field and have a setback again. We're going in the right direction now." [...]
Jose Reyes did some light jogging on Saturday, but is still
Jose Reyes did some light jogging on Saturday, but is still not expected to return before mid-July.
Analysis: Reyes continues to hit and take ground balls without pain -- but running has vexed him. Since an MRI revealed a right hamstring tear earlier this month, the Mets have treated Reyes' rehabilitation with extra caution. Reyes called testing the hamstring "a little bit scary," and so the Mets are being prudent. Only when Reyes can jog pain-free at one speed will the Mets allow him to increase the pace. It's an effective process, but a slow one -- and there's no end in sight.
Reyes jogs, though hamstring is still an issue
Jose Reyes (hamstring) took batting practice and jogged before New York's game on Saturday but will remain on the DL for the foreseeable future, according to MLB.com. "I'd like to be on the field as soon as possible," Reyes said. "But with this kind of injury, you never know."
Our View: Reyes has stated that his biggest challenge is running at full speed, obviously a concern for a guy whose fantasy value comes largely from his ability to steal bases. It still does not seem likely that he'll be back in the Mets' lineup anytime before the All-Star break.
Reyes jogs, but return is no closer
Again, Jose Reyes worked out, and again, Jerry Manuel hardly paid attention. Call it managerial practicality. Knowing that Reyes isn't close to joining the Mets, Manuel said on Saturday that he won't hold out hope for his dynamic shortstop's imminent return.

Reyes to test hammy today
Jose Reyes plans to test his injured hamstring and run before the Mets game at Citi Field today, according to the New York Daily News.
Our View: Ever so slowly, Reyes inches toward a return. This is a huge step, should it go well, and his return could begin accelerating if there are no problems.
Mets | Reyes yet to begin running
Tim Britton, of MLB.com, reports New York Mets SS Jose Reyes (calf) has yet to begin running but has limited himself to walking on a treadmill and light jogging in the pool. "I haven't started running yet, and that's going to take a while," Reyes said. "Running is a big part of my game. If that's not there, it's tough for me to play." He stated that it will be hard for him to return before the All-Star break.

Reyes working out at Citi Field
Injured star shortstop (right calf tendinitis) Jose Reyes took grounders and hit Tuesday at Citi Field, according to the New York Post.
Our View: Any news regarding progress in Reyes recovery is wonderful news for the Mets, and it appears he is finally making some strides toward returning. He has still yet to begin running, but the team is optimistic he could return sometime around the All-Star break.

A day after GM Omar Minaya spoke hopefully of Reyes attempting to "catch some ground balls" and noted that Reyes has been "running on the treadmill" for several days, Reyes said Saturday that he had done neither and still had pain "if I try to do some quick moves," the NY Newsday's Mets blog reports. [...]
Reyes not improving
According to Metsblog.com, injured shortstop Jose Reyes "feels something" in the torn tendon in his hamstring when he makes "quick moves."
Our View: This obviously isn't good news. The Mets were already taking Reyes' rehab painfully slow, but this may be yet another setback. When a base stealer can't make quick moves all kinds of red flags pop up. Don't expect to see the shortstop back any time soon.
The New York Daily News reports that Jose Reyes has taken his
News: The New York Daily News reports that Jose Reyes has taken his first steps toward being activated from the disabled list. Earlier this week, he ran lightly on a treadmill. Jose Reyes is progressing in his recovery from his hamstring injury, according to Newsday. He took some batting practice Friday, and also did some light running on a treadmill.
Our View: He will field grounders Saturday prior to the Mets' game against the Rays, and the club will continue to take his rehab slow. This marks Reyes' first baseball activity since he sustained a torn hamstring tendon back on June 3 in Port St. Lucie.
Mets | Reyes to take groundballs Friday

Straibanezed Groin
The only thing more strained than Raul Ibanez’s patience for skeptics is his left groin as the Phillies placed him on the 15 day DL. You don’t own Ibanez for his wheels so this isn’t as troubling as Jose Reyes with a bad hammy or Willy Taveras with an allergy to getting on base. Stick [...]
Reyes' rehab delayed
Metsblog.com reports that manager Jerry Manuel says that Jose Reyes' calf will need at least another week of rest before he is able to even begin his rehab.
Our View: It appears that Reyes will be out for the rest of the month, and this could extend past the all-star break. He had not been having a strong season at the time of the injury, but his fantasy owners still undoubtedly miss him dearly.

No timetable for Reyes
There remains no timetable for Jose Reyes' return to the diamond while recovering from a slightly torn hamstring, according to the Associated Press.
Our View: He is only able to work on a bicycle and treadmill right now, but does not believe his ailment is as severe as his previous hamstring injuries. We will keep you posted on his status.

Jose B. Reyes hit a ground ball to second base in extended spring
News: Jose B. Reyes hit a ground ball to second base in extended spring training and tried to beat it out. After a few steps, he felt pain in right his leg. "Like, you know, when you touch electricity," he said. Reyes has been sidelined with leg injuries for nearly all of the last month and still has no timetable to return. What was at first described as a strained right calf caused him to be held out at the start of a West Coast trip on May 14. He missed five starts, returned, then aggravated the injury while running out a grounder May 20 at Los Angeles and hasn't played since. He tore the hamstring while rehabbing on June 3 in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and returned to New York. He'll remain here through at least the weekend. "I think it's a new injury," he said. "A difference place, higher, around the same area." Reyes has been working on a treadmill and bicycling. He is being subject to platelet-rich plasma therapy, in which blood is removed, platelets are separated in a centrifuge and then re-injected. Reyes injured his right hamstring three times in 2003 and 2004 but had been healthy since then, and he thinks he will be able to play when the leg is 80-85 percent healed. He says this injury isn't as bad as the previous ones. "When I hurt my hamstring before, I wasn't able to walk the way I wanted to. And now, with this one, you know, it's different because I can walk, you know, can move without pain. So that's good news." [...]

Reyes had been close to a return from a calf strain, but injured
Reyes had been close to a return from a calf strain, but injured the hamstring in a rehab appearance in an extended spring training game Wednesday. He'll spend the coming days in New York before likely returning to Florida. "After he rests, we'll probably start the rehab procedures," Minaya said. "The good thing about Reyes is he has a lot of strength in his legs. He's not a guy you'll have to re-start over. He was walking around OK." Alex Cora will earn most of the starts at shortstop, but because of a torn ligament in his right thumb, manager Jerry Manuel is likely to give Wilson Valdez playing time as well.
Mets | Reyes likely out for at least two weeks
Updating previous reports, David Lennon, of Newsday, reports New York Mets SS Jose Reyes (hamstring) will likely miss at least two to three weeks after being diagnosed with a slight tear in his right hamstring tendon.
Reyes expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks
Updating a previous report, the New York Post is reporting that Jose Reyes is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks with his slightly torn hamstring. Reyes is also dealing with right calf tendinitis.
Our View: The Post believes that the torn hamstring is a 2-to-3 week injury and that the team will be cautious with the injuries to his legs and give him another 2-to-3 weeks on top of it. This is a big blow to Reyes owners, but there is still hope he could come back sooner. We will keep you updated on his condition.

Valdez productive in loss
Wilson Valdez was productive in Monday's 8-5 loss at Pittsburgh, as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. He hit a double and a triple.
Our View: He made a fielding error, but the Mets should still be pleased with his performance at the plate. The 31-year-old vet is filling in at shortstop while Jose Reyes is on the shelf, and Valdez is worth a look in deeper NL-only leagues following tonight's outing.
