1. Jorge Posada had never been on the DL before last year. Now he has been disabled two straight years. The Yanks believe that this hamstring injury is nothing like the shoulder problem last year that necessitated surgery and Posada to miss most of the second half. The Yanks expect him back in 2-3 weeks.

But perhaps this injury should say something about how the Yankees should look at the final two seasons of Posada's contract, which cover the 2010-11 season. He turns 38 in August. Bob Boone and Carlton Fisk are the only players in major league history to catch 120 or more games in a season in their age-38-or-older seasons. Perhaps Posada could be a similar physical freak. But the breakdowns the past two years suggest something different. So how do the Yankees protect their investment, which is for $13.1 million in both 2010 and 2011?
