He and Zimmermann are vying for spots in the rotation and Young is a Rule 5 draft pick who must either make the team out of camp or be offered back to the Reds. "I tried to be as calm as possible and not get too worked up, and I think that helps me," the 22-year-old Zimmermann said. "I wasn't nervous at all. I just got up there and did my thing." [...]
Jordan Zimmermann retired all six Tigers he faced, striking
Jordan Zimmermann retired all six Tigers he faced, striking out three of them, in the Nationals' 2-1 win on Thursday. Zimmermann pitched the third and fourth innings after Collin Balester threw a pair of hitless frames to start the game. Status: D.L.. Out Indefinitely
Nationals transferred RHP Jordan Zimmermann to the 60-day disabled list. Zimmermann underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-August and is likely to miss the entire 2010 season. The transaction cleared 40-man roster space for Pete Orr, who will add depth to Washington's infield.
