Our View: Cueto has not been very good in his last four starts or so, and he is really starting to hurt fantasy rotations. It may be smart to look at matchups with Cueto going forward until he breaks out of this slump. His ERA is now up to 3.78, which isn't terrible but is over a full run higher than it was last month. The stuff is still there, but he needs to harness it to be effective like he was early in the season.

Given the nine flyouts he allowed, he's lucky there weren't more balls flying beyond the fence. He should be able to settle down July 30 when he faces the powerless Padres at Cincy's Great American Ball Park.

This certainly wasn�t a bad outing for Cueto -- he had dropped each of his last two starts, giving up a combined 13 earned runs -- but no starting pitcher ever wants to allow double-digit hits in an outing. Ever since he cruised through the first two and a half months with an ERA right around two, it�s been a rocky stretch for the young hurler, who�s 2-2 with an 8.26 ERA over his last six starts. His 88/38 K/BB ratio remains solid, but owners should play it by ear with Cueto going forward. He�s on tap to take the rock again July 25 in Chicago vs. a Cubs team he�s already beat once this year.

Johnny Cueto got annihilated by the Phillies on Monday. He was unable to make it out of the first inning, recording just two outs while surrendering nine runs off five hits (two home runs), three walks and a hit batter.

Our View: To Cueto's credit, the nine runs he gave up didn't account for even half the 22 that Philadelphia would finish with. Still, this performance came out of nowhere, following a one-hit gem against Arizona last week. Cueto's ERA jumped from 2.69 to 3.45, and he's now surrendered at least five runs in four of his past five outings (although they were all unearned in his June 14 start against the Royals). Cueto remains lights out when he's on, but leave it to tonight's performance to prove that he's not yet an elite pitcher and could fall off a bit in the second half of the season.

Analysis: Simply a filthy night�s work from Cueto, who waged a more significant battle against himself than he did against an overmatched Arizona lineup, handing out four free passes. His lack of command -- he exhausted himself by throwing 108 pitches (58 strikes) over the six frames -- was the only reason he wasn�t able to stick around and mow down a few more D-backs. Regardless, he did his job and upped his K/BB ratio to a respectable 78/32. With the way he looked in this one, owners can be confident that a pair of recent rough outings are safely in the rearview mirror. The young hurler will get the nod again on July 6 in Philly.
