It was the 13th time that Santana gave up three earned runs or fewer and did not earn the win. His ERA is the second-best in the National League at 2.70 this season.

Most of the teams Johan Santana has faced do not claim much success off the lefty, and players on the Phillies roster fit that bill. Against the Cy Young winner, Phillies players are hitting a combined .210 in 105 at-bats, with two home runs, two walks and 28 strikeouts.The Mets need Santana to continue dominating Phillies hitters after imploding on Tuesday, losing in extra innings after holding a 7-0 lead.

Bill Madden of the New York Daily News says the Mets will have about $20 million to spend this offseason. Madden says the Mets are certain to reduce their $147 million payroll and should be counted out of the Lackey, Holliday and Bay sweepstakes. Madden goes on to say that second-tier free agents should be their focus with priorities being left-field and two starting pitchers, naming Jason Marquis specifically. We're not sold that the Mets will walk away from the premier free agents just yet.
