Santana was put to the test and this one and certainly didn't disappoint, throwing 81 of his season-high 118 pitches for strikes as he stymied a pesky Cardinals lineup for his first complete game of the season. The ace lefty has been grooving of late, surrendering just three earned runs while fanning nine over his last 17 innings of work. Start him with confidence when he next takes the mound, like August 1 on the road against the Astros.

Johan Santana only surrendered one run on six hits over nine innings in Sunday's 9-1 win over the Cardinals at Shea Stadium, with one walk and five strikeouts. The only run allowed came on an Albert Pujols homer.Believe it or not, that was only Santana's first complete game of the season. He improves to 9-7, and hasn't been dealt a loss in five straight outings.

Status: D.L.. Out for the season
A Mets source close to Omar Minaya told Jon Heyman of SI.com that the reason Minaya still has his job is strictly because of the three-year extension the GM signed in October 2008. Minaya is certainly on very thin ice, and Heyman believes manager Jerry Manuel is in a better position to last longer in the organization. The Mets are willing to spend in free agency, so Minaya will have the chance to build a contending team. If New York falls flat on their face again, you can bet Omar will be on the way out.
