News: The Reds placed 1B Joey Votto on the 15-day DL on Saturday for personal reasons that Votto has asked to keep private, according to MLB.com. "He's dealing with a personal issue," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "He wants us to respect his privacy about that." Votto had dealt with dizziness off and on -- the result of an inner-ear infection -- but this absence apparently isn't directly related. "It's partly that. Let's leave it at that," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. "It's basically something that Joey needs some time away to deal with. We gave him that time. It's not a big deal, but it's something that was affecting his ability to play at the level he wants to play at." [...]

Reds | Votto placed on 15-day disabled list
Updating previous reports, the Cincinnati Reds have placed 1B Joey Votto (stress) on the 15-day disabled list, due to stress-related issues, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. Votto has been bothered by dizziness resulting from an inner ear infection for more than two weeks, and he left the game Friday, May 29, against the Milwaukee Brewers, because he felt dizzy.
Castillo back with Reds
Wilkin Castillo was called back up to join the Reds on Saturday, according to MLB.com. He will take the roster spot of Joey Votto, who was placed on the DL with stress related issues.
Our View: Castillo will provide depth but not a lot of production for the Reds. He was hitting .196 at Triple-A. Ramon Hernandez figures to see more starts at first base, making Castillo the No. 2 catcher on those nights.
Votto lands on DL
MLB.com reports that Joey Votto has been placed on the 15-day DL due to stress related issues. Infielder Wilkin Castillo was called up to take his roster spot. The first baseman has been in and out of the lineup over the past two weeks because of dizziness.
Our View: If nothing else, this at least lets us know for certain he will not be in the lineup over the next two weeks. He has been a day to day case for at least two weeks. This is unfortunate though as he has been the Reds best hitter with 33 RBI in 38 games. Through his first 126 at bats, the 25-year-old is hitting an impressive .357/.464/.627.
Votto has battled the flu, an inner ear infection and dizziness
Votto has battled the flu, an inner ear infection and dizziness -- perhaps a product of the infection -- for most of May. This is disconcerting news since the promising youngster hasn't been able to shake off the affliction for most of the month. He's too good of a young hitter to cut, so stay patient and stash him on your DL.

Votto out on Saturday
MLB.com reports that Joey Votto will not play on Saturday and he could possibly land on the DL due to what is being called an inner ear infection. The first baseman had a closed door meeting with his coach, GM, and trainer following his early exit in Friday's game.
Our View: Votto is still battling dizziness on occasion, and his constant yo-yo-ing in and out of the lineup has made him among the more frustrating players to own. Through his first 126 at bats, the 25-year-old is hitting an impressive .357/.464/.627.

Ramon Hernandez moved from behind the plate to first base. [...]
Votto leaves game again
Joey Votto registered only one at-bat in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Brewers, as he exited the game early due to symptoms of a lingering ear infection.
Our View: Votto was cleared and good to go, and everyone was under the assumption that the ear infection was no longer an issue. Turns out there are still some lasting effects. We'll update his status as we know more. He may head back to the bench though.

Roy Oswalt felt better Wednesday after experiencing numbness in the fingers on his right hand during Tuesday's start against the Reds after being struck by a Joey Votto shot up the middle, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "It is a little bruised. My two fingers are, but it is not bad. It actually feels like the bones right here in your hand; it feels like the bones are bruised there from trying to catch it barehanded instead of with a pad."
Our View: The Astros' ace hurler will start Monday against the Rockies on an extra day of rest. Oswalt should be fine to keep active in fantasy lineups.

Votto returns, homers
In his return to the lineup Joey Votto hit a game-winning two-run homer in the seven inning to burn the Astros 6-4 on Tuesday. It was his only hit in four at-bats.
Our View: Votto has been in and out with the flu and an ear infection, but in limited time between injuries he's clubbed four homers. He's one of the best young players in the game and is hitting .364 on the season. Play him every day now that he's healthy.

Votto in lineup
Joey Votto is in the lineup for tonight's home game against the Astros, according to MLBblogs.com. He will bat third in the order.
Our View: He was held out of the starting lineup for the previous two games while dealing with symptoms caused by his ear infection, but should be fine to employ in fantasy lineups for tonight. The rising star is hitting .340 with five homers and 17 RBI over 16 games at the Great American Ballpark this season.

Votto pinch hits
The AP reports that Joey Votto did not start for the second straight game due to dizziness, but he did make two plate appearances late in Monday's 8-5 win over the Astros. He was 0-for-1 with an intentional walk.
Our View: Votto has been among the most frustrating of players to own over the past couple of weeks. He has missed the majority of the Reds games, but chiped in two home runs in Saturday's start. He has not been in the starting lineup since, but should be back sooner rather than later.

News: Reds first baseman Joey Votto was scratched from the lineup Sunday because of dizziness, a condition that cost him 10 starts earlier this month. Votto hit home runs Saturday against Cleveland in the first two at-bats of his first start since May 16. The flu and dizziness caused by an inner ear infection had forced him to miss several games from May 7-22 and leave two others early. Reds 1B Joey Votto hit two home runs in his return from a week
News: Reds 1B Joey Votto hit two home runs in his return from a week of medical tests, but Cincinnati fell short to the Indians on Saturday 7-6. An inner-ear infection left Votto dizzy during a West Coast trip and led to three days of medical tests to reach the diagnosis. After a week of waiting, Votto needed only two at-bats to make the Indians feel a little dazed. Votto hit a full-count pitch into the stands in left-center field in the first inning off rookie David Huff, rounded the bases and was congratulated by disbelieving teammates. Catcher Ramon Hernandez had a wide-eyed look as he bumped fists with Votto in the dugout. Votto's night would get better. On his first swing in his next at-bat, Votto hit a three-run shot deep into the seats in right field. Huff did a double-take, looking back at the stands to see how far up it landed. The 35,821 fans demanded a curtain call from Votto for the third multihomer game of his career. [...]

Reds first baseman Joey Votto has an ear infection that should
News: Reds first baseman Joey Votto has an ear infection that should clear up in a few days with medication, doctors concluded Thursday. Votto had a series of tests in two cities after he got dizzy spells during a West Coast trip last week. Doctors think the infection in his left ear is linked to a case of the flu he had earlier in the month. Flights to Arizona and San Diego last week aggravated the ailment. "That's probably what brought on the symptoms," trainer Mark Mann said. "In the last four days, Joey's felt much better. He hasn't had any more symptoms since he got back to Cincinnati." The Reds have missed Votto, who is their leading hitter at .366. Cincinnati had lost four of five heading into Thursday's game against Philadelphia, with the offense struggling to get a clutch hit. Votto will work out before the start of a game Friday night against Cleveland. The Reds play their next two series at home, giving Votto time to get over the ear infection before he has to fly again. Votto could be back on the field over the weekend. "It's going to depend on how he feels each day," Mann said. [...]

God bless you, Joey. Your father would be so proud of the wonderful son he raised.
Joey is not only an amazing player, he is an amazing person. I was so touched by his willingness to share his personal story, and I believe it will be so helpful to others who have struggled with the same issues. As someone who has experienced almost the same thing after the traumatic illness of one of my parents, I hope that Joey will know he's not alone. That's the hardest thing to remember, when it's the middle of the night, and that anxiety hits. And this is nothing that should cause him to feel embarrassed or ashamed. On the contrary, it speaks to the close bond he had with his father. I, for one, think Joey's honesty about this just makes him all the more fantastical! We love you, Joey!
