News: The Sports Xchange reports that A's RP Joey Devine told the San Francisco Chronicle that he is well ahead of schedule in his return from April 4 Tommy John surgery. "I'm feeling really good and strong," Devine told the newspaper. "I feel much better than I did before surgery. Dr. (James) Andrews is so good at what he does, that's why so many guys go to him. I couldn't be happier I went to him." According to the Chronicle, Devine is scheduled to start throwing in mid-August. He said he expects to be ready to pitch in games by spring training and he believes he will be on the opening-day roster, which puts him a good month ahead of expectations. [...]

Status: D.L.. Out for the season
Joey Devine played catch Saturday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John Surgery in April. Devine is aiming to be at full health by the start of spring training 2010. If he reaches his goal, there's a good chance he'll be battling Andrew Bailey for ninth-inning duties next season.
