He started the month with back-to-back 11-strikeout contests, but the righty attained just 10 K's in 23 2/3 innings over his last four appearances. Even without a high strikeout rate, he's managed to pitch two scoreless efforts in his last three outings. It's a testament to his makeup that Weaver can battle through games even when he's not mowing down hitters, so consider him a must-start Sept. 3 on the road against the Royals.

The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (13-4) threw his second career shutout against the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, Aug. 19. He gave up seven hits and never let the Indians have more than one runner on base at a time. Weaver walked one, struck out three and matched his career-high win total. He improved to 6-2 in 12 starts since his last shutout June 14. He now has four complete games in his career.

Jered Weaver tossed a gem against a stacked Rangers' lineup on Saturday. He allowed just two runs on five hits and a walk over 7.1 innings and fanned 11 hitters. He improved to 12-3 on the season as the Angles nipped the Rangers 3-2.

Our View: Weaver was incredible in the first half, but has been miserable since. His ERA jumped from 2.08 on June 14th to 3.79 before Saturday's start. Since July first he has had just two quality starts, so it was nice to see him put together a positive outing today.

Our View: The Ks were a nice fantasy surprise in this one, but Weaver still wasn't sharp. He's 11-3 on the season, but hasn't had a quality start since July 11th (four starts). Since June 14th his ERA has risen from 2.08 to 3.79. It's been a frustrating second half to say the least.

As evidenced by the 11 Ks, Weaver had dominant stuff in this one. However, while he only gave up four hits, two of them left the yard off the bats of Justin Morneau and Orlando Cabrera. Weavers experienced extended troubles with the long ball, allowing 12 over his last nine starts, which have contributed to an unsightly 6.09 ERA in that span. The big rightys 7.97 K/9 mark is formidable, but its tough for owners to continually give him the nod when hes shown a propensity for giving up lots of runs. It may be wise to consider sitting the big righty when he takes the hill again on Aug. 7 vs. a Rangers lineup that leads the Majors in home runs.
