According to Jon Heyman on Twitter, the Mets are interested in free agent starter Joel Pineiro.
Our View: Pineiro has a career year with the Cardinals in 2009, going 15-12 with a 3.49 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and the best groundball rate in the majors. He'll likely command Jeff Suppan/Brader Looper type dollars ($30 million for three or four years), but don't be surprised if his production replicates that of Soup and Lopper as well when he's separated from Dave Duncan. It's an obvious and disappointing trend.
Brewers | Suppan not guaranteed rotation spot
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said SP Jeff Suppan isn't guaranteed a rotation spot next year, despite his $12.5 million salary.

Suppan was rattled late in the year, giving up 15 earned runs in 10 1/3 innings heading into Sunday. He didn't last long on Sunday, and the shaky late-season performances don't bode well for Suppan heading into next year. He finished with just seven wins, a 5.29 ERA, a 1.70 WHIP and just 80 strikeouts in 161 2/3 innings.
