Dodgers | $40 million could come off the books
Dodgers.MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports the Los Angeles Dodgers have a possible $40 million coming off the books with eligible free agents. That figure is topped by SP Jason Schmidt's $15.5 million salary.

Dodgers transferred RHP Jason Schmidt to the 60-day disabled list. The move makes room for newly acquired hurler Vicente Padilla. Schmidt went 2-2 with a 5.61 ERA earlier in the year, but was bitten by the injury bug yet again in early August. The Dodgers have just three wins and two shoulder operations to show for their three-year investment. If he is in fact done, the right-hander finishes 130-96 with a 3.96 ERA in 1,996 1/3 innings. He led baseball with a 2.34 ERA for the Giants in 2003, placing second in the Cy Young race.
